Driver seat height adj

So I searched the forum and tried contact spray, pulled the switch out and verified contacts are ok, pulled the seat and repaired a broken brown wire, noticed green and purple wires were not plugged into anything. Found two open male connectors on the motor and tried plugging them in. Still no solution to getting the height adjustment fixed. Any ideas?

Green and purple are the wires TO the Motor from switch.

I just fixed my motor and switch. It was blowing fuses. Metal piece was snorting switch and my motor was jamming on itself. Took a while to figure out but the can needs to be tightly secured to the back. Brushed were dirty and needed a re lube.

How many controls do you have? I have seat UP/DN For and AFT, so only 4 pins on the main plug under the seat. It takes up to 8 per seat.

They go on the motor tabs.

I have the same setup as in your picture. I verified there is power in the switch however none of the four wires out of the switch were hot. I just ordered a new switch to see if that is the culprit here.

You should have 2 power coming from the plug. You can pull one motor out and put it on the other switch. Could be the motor. Mine was crapping out as it was jamming. I put the purple and green wires for one switch to the other to rule out the switch.

There’s a great post on fixing the switch. My switch was messed and my motor too. Fixed both. Works.

Good idea. The switch wiring was already suspect as shown by my attempt at a repair (blue wire) so the new switch is prob necessary anyway. I read that whole thread though. Thanks for your help!

That piece with the blue wire looks like it’s for the seat belt sensor system. Nothing to do with motor.

No that was my attempt to repair the broken brown wire in the clip that goes toward the back of the seat

And out of the blue the downward rear seat adjustment starting working today. Now it just won't go back up... So I think that proves the motor is Ok and the switch is bad.

So if I understand right, someone changed the orig wires to the switch?

You should have 2 wires red/bn that go to the car via the 8 pin plug ( but you should have only 4 / 2 per switch ) and two wires Green/Purple going from switch to motor.

Look here to fix the switch. It’s how I did mine. Scroll down for the 2 pos vs 4.

"how-to" fix power seat switches......

Like I said, the brown wire going into the plug under the rear part of the seat was corroded and broken. I tried to fix it by splicing in a new piece of wire into that plug.

Alright, took another shot at it tonight. I replaced the switch for rear height, when I tested it all worked fine - both switches activated their motor both directions. Put the seat back in the car and the switch I replaced stopped working - it went on one direction for a while then stopped. I swapped the wires from the other motor and it works which proves one switch and both motors are fine. Something wrong with the second switch or is there possibly something wrong with the power coming through to that switch? Ideas to try next?

Same thing happened to me..

You need a circuit tester that lights up. I unplugged the motor and moved the switch ea way and the light came on in the tester fine.

So I swapped motors and it worked.

I pulled my motor and relized it was intermittent...but why..

Fearing I might need a new motor I decided to take this thing apart.

It’s a worm gear and the motor has like a tension mount screw that’s loctited p.

I used a Large Robertson screwdriver ( square bit ) to turn the motor. There was resistance sometimes. And I think when the motor senses resistance it shuts of vs burns up.

After getting it apart, the brushes were dirt but all looked intact. I just re assembled it ( hard to close up, wrote a post on it ) and noticed that over the years it must have moved ajar ever so slightly, that the brush mounts could slightly catch due to the can being a mm longer.

Once I bent the tabs back and made it tight, and reset the loctite screw to where it was, it worked fine. Installed it and good.

You need a circuit tester to make sure that switch is good. Light bulb on each way. Then you know you fixed switch.
