18" wheels on a 911 SC?

Actually, I'm thinking of a brake upgrade. If I end up with nice looking brakes, I really like the 996 5-spoke wheels. They only come in 18" size. Probably would look stupid. And no, I'm not looking for a set of spinners. I've already got those on my triple black Escalade with a whistle-tip exhaust!

I don't see why 18" wheel would look bad on an SC. I do however dislike the "twist" or modern style wheels on older 911's as they just don't look right as the eras are so far removed. I think a classic spiderweb style or 5 spoke 18 would look great.

I'd worry more about how much rotational mass your adding. There are some very good reasons why SCs don't have heavy wheels. Not only is this not recommended, it's fairly dumb for the most part. The bottom line is that you are going to hurt the car's performance a lot.
RUF has done this with 964s, but they already had heavy wheels, and the only reason that they made them heavier was for more straight line stability, and they designed the wheels so that it didn't affect cornering. My boss has a set of them and it's almost impossible to believe that they work considering how heavy they are.

Unless you think the 18s are just the greatest looking wheels in the world and you have to have them, I'd stay with fuchs, they already look great and you're not going to hurt performance.

Now I may be 100% wrong here but is not the weight of a wheel/tire combo mainly in the tire? An 18 uses much less rubber right? wrong? Hmmm.

Go with slotted ATE discs and an aggressive pad. I did....stops extremely well.

I agree that the turbo twist and modern style wheels don't look right on an SC. However, if one was to put 18" Fikse FM10's or Kinesis K28 on a SC, that's a different story. IMO either of these wheels in 18" would look real nice on a SC.

An article in Panorama(?) explained the main problem with larger wheels is that the lower sidewall transmits substantially more shock to the suspension parts that are not designed to take the impact. I think there are some upgrades that need to be done on 964s or 993's (not sure about which model) to run 18" wheels. I think 17" or 18" wheels look better that the original, especailly the Fikse FM 10s or the BBS LMs.
This problem would be in addition to rubbing issues but I think the Fikse's can be made to any offset required.

arent the new RUF wheels 18" only? I have seen those on an SC with C2 body and it looked ok...
