Rust Repair-Inner Rocker “notch”? Yep

Why is the inner rocker notched above the jack hole?

The jack reinforcement goes near there but does not cover it. I’ve seen other inner rocker panels without this notch.

I’m deep into rust repair and this seems like a weak spot if I leave it as is.

Here's a few photos from that area on my 69 912. Maybe these will help you.

Bill and I put our names on the inside of one of my 912 rockers. Just to freak someone out on down the road. Funny thing, a few years later someone in the UK was restoring a 67 911S and found Bill and the former owner of the car had done the same trick long long ago. That opened up a conversation on the previous history of the 911S.

I deleted the photos to preserve a bit of anonymity.

I guess I’ll fill in that notch, and put another plate behind and plug weld AND butt weld to the piece behind the jack support.

Once you go this far, it’s easy to add a few extra pieces to be sure it’s strong!
