My 911 shifts better when warmed up?
I've noticed that shifting from gear to gear becomes much easier after the car is warmed up to idle between roughly 900-1000. Any reason for this? (I have a 901 transmission)

the fluid is hot, so it's flow properties have changed. Even my G50 is like that.

OK. When cold, I have to usually press the clutch peddle further down to engage gears.

Regardless of whether it's hot or cold, you should always depress the clutch pedal fully when shifting.

Its probably still idling high so its spinning faster so it takes a little longer for the clutch to engage Just a thought

I think all std. shift vehicles shift better when they have warmed up a bit. Everyone I have had did/does.

I wouldn't let the car sit and idle, maybe just concentrate on shifting a little slower. It's not the engine oil, it's the tranny fluid(oil) that affects the shifting.

I think my 911 is a "prize".. but the 915 is a boobby prize.. when ice cold, in order to prevent clashing gears, I double clutch for awhile...............Ron

I'll second that! My old, beater pickup tranny shifts better w/ 157k miles on it, and my 915 was just rebuilt! I still love the car, though.

I've only had my car for a few weeks now and this happened to me once. It was a cool morning, about 45 degs F, and I parked overnight on a fairly steep slope. When I fired it up to get to work, I noticed the clutch felt 'viscous'... like the other end of the lever was in a vat of tar. It was a bit tougher to push the pedal down, and it sprang back up very slowly. After about 10 shifts, I felt it loosen up, and eventually back to normal. That only happened that one cool morning. Now why did it do that? Was it the incline? It's always about 45-55 degs in the mornings here.
