Help with 4 vs 5 pin relay
The female side of my fog light relay is so damaged and patent, that the male relay keeps falling out (keep those salacious thoughts to yourself!) and then the fog lights won’t work The schematic I have for this ‘74 Carrera doesn’t even show a fog light relay.
The 4 wires from the harness are: white, red, blue/white, green/white. Unfortunately, the new Porsche female receptacle is a 5 wire unit: with: 2 red/white wires, brown, red, light blue. With the red and red/white wires being thicker than the brown and blue. Before i start the tedious process of trying to find what goes where with my VOM, does anyone know what goes where and which wire on the new relay receptacle goes nowhere? Also any tips on using my VOM to sort this out? thanx steve

Should be easy with a meter. Most meters have a setting for continuity that has a beep tone. Select that mode and hold one probe on a wire and touch the other probe to each of the female receptacles and write down which wire goes to which pin. Do that for the old and new one and it should be easy to map over the wire colors. Hope that helps.

Look at the bottom of the relay for the terminal numbers and map them out with a voltmeter on ohms.
Or, have me make you a new relay base with the correct size wire and colors, and pin arrangements. ![]()

As i was retrieving my VOM, I got some great help from Bob Tindel at our sponsor, Pelican. He suggested using the blade of a box cutter (I used a razor blade, same diff) to gently and slightly spread the pins on the relay itself. Done and fixed! Very cool. thanx Bob! and thanx guys for the good plan i was about to implement. steve
