Front Seat re-leather complete
Hey Guy's,
I spent part of last week and early Saturday morning replacing the leather on my two front sport seats out of my 84 Targa. I had to build up the foam some before replacing the leather. All in all it went pretty good. I wrote down notes and took pics as I went along. As soon as I get a spare hour or so I will type it up and post it. Put it back on the rode on Saturday afternoon just in time to enjoy some of the nice Northern VA weather. Dan O 84' 3.2 Targa |

While my seats are still in exceptional condition, I would be interested to see how you recovered yours. I'm sure that write-up with pictures would be a very popular thread. Glad you got in a little seat-time after spending time on your seats

Ditto. My '74 has sheepskins. They actually look ok, but recovering is the next job I covet most.

I'm dying for the info. did you buy leather covers and install or do it all from scratch? My '84 is in desperate need of new leather also.

JG,
I bought the leather covers from World Upholstery. They were very good to work with and delivered the leather covers in the 2.5 weeks they quoted. Leather is a little expensive but worth it to me. The covers were cut to fit and the match is very close in color. They do have different shades and grain patterns so I had plenty of choice to work with. The one thing that I wasn't expecting was that the foam under the original covers had shrunk between 1/4 and 1/2 inch is some places so I had to add a layer of foam to the original foam. Would Upholstery sent that to me too but it wasn't included with the covers. It wasn't that hard just took my time. The seats look pretty good if I do say so myself. Dan O 84' 3.2 Targa

JG,
The leather covers cost me around $900 and I probably spent another $25 or $30 in other supplies. Dan O

I bought a set of original seats for my SC off ebay and had them redyed by a leather professional to perfectly match the car interior. Total cost = $775. They look good.

I took the lazy way out and shipped my '76 front seats out to Rick Green in Prunedale, CA. He did a great job in just 2 and half weeks and the seats look OEM right down to the seat bottom perforations. He also welded a couple of broken nuts back onto the frames before recovering the seats. The cost was $1200 and I'm very pleased with the job. Jim

Here in Los Angeles, we have Adult Education Schools that teach, among other things, auto upholstery. For a relatively nominal sum, they'll provide the labor if you provide the materials. Has anyone ever tried this approach to having their seats redone?
Thanks.
