Diagnosing Bad DME after Horrific Soldering Job
Guys I've been trying to pull everything together on my 84 carrera. Got some 993 flipped flanges for larger primaries, was able to install them without breaking any exhaust studs, had to backdate oil lines...all the necessary stuff...car RAN great!
Got ambitious and got a SW chip to get the most out of the engine. I had a 2k DME and had to remove and replace the jumper to convert to a 4k. I also have a solid state from focus 9, which was great because I was able to prime the fuel pump and hear it before cranking over. Long story short, my soldering job is terrible, I was trying to drop soldering from the top as opposed to using the underside and burnt the circuit board where the jumper inserts, and now: -turn the key to ignition, ICV does not buzz -don't hear the fuel pump prime -obviously won't start but does crank I've charged the battery, checked the pins on the dme relay for continuity which are all good, checked the wires going into dme relay for continuity all good, disconnected the fuel pressure test cap and cleared that fuel that may be backed up in there and reinstalled with the sealing ball at this point, ordered a new 4k dme from SW, I assumed its the DME from the bad soldering job and burning the board...but my question is, while i wait for the new dme and anxiety sets in.... would that cause the ICV to not actuate? would that cause the fuel pump to not audibly prime like it did before? should i test the dme pins with a multi-meter when its out of the car? |

Do you imply that some have had bad luck?
You are aware the Pelican Parts provides that service as do others frequently mentioned on the Pelican Parts Forum.

I did... That's why I ordered a new one. I'm just unsure why I don't hear the fuel pump actuate anymore. Does the fuel pump priming occur if there dme is bad?
I'd imagine the icv doesn't work when fme is bad Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk |

Contact Lorne at System Consultants. He went way beyond the level of service I had expected.

I second that comment. Specialized fixed my 914's ECU ('74 1.8L) when other's couldn't
and it has started/run perfect for the last 4 or 5 years. My car was a disaster when I bought it and had it towed home (the seat belt interlock ECU was missing) and the wiring in the tunnel was a complete mess. Once I sorted everything out the car still wouldn't run, so after trying a couple of local repair establishments, with no luck, Specialized did the job.
