79 911 Wheel & Tyres recommendation

Hi,

Hope you are all well and safe.

I'm looking for wheel and tyre size recommendations on my '79 SC

It currently has 205/50/R15 front & 225/50/R15 rear (from previous owner).

Thinking of going 16" wheels and with Bridgestone RE003.

Anyone have a similar setup that can provide some advice ?

Cheers,

What wheels do you have? Usually 205/50 & 225/50 would be used w/ 7 & 8 x15s. If so that is one of the best performance setups for a stockish SC that you can use.

16 will suck ~26lb-ft more of torque from the motor compared to the same tire in 15

Thanks Bill,

The current wheels are Fuchs 7 & 8' x 15. The car is an ex-race car that I've road registered and been working on (my first Porsche). Handles exceptionally well.

Was considering a size change as there seems to be more options on tyre choice with 16s.

Current tyres are Fulken ZE914 & ZE91. Great in dry. Pretty ordinary in the wet.

However it sounds like I should be getting the wheels refurbished and looking for an appropriate tyre to fit?

for 16 (6/7 or 7/8) the sizes are front 205/55 and rear 225/50

going 16 7/9 will need 245/45 at rear

Continental Sport Contact N2 is probably the best bang for the buck.

for more grip (even in rain) you can opt for the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 RS

I'm not sure what's available in Aus or what type of tire you are looking for but Yok A052 & A048, Toyo RA1, Proxix RR & R888, Pirelli P7 N4 classic, BFG R1, all come in those sizes
