So Luft translates to air in German, so is that hose open to the air? Or does it go to the air intake to provide a vacuum?

Hi Graham,

you could delete it as in Washington, WA the emission testing program just ended:
https://ecology.wa.gov/Air-Climate/Air-quality/Vehicle-emissions/Emissions-check-ends

But if you intend to sell your car somewhere in the future, this will end up in problems for interesting people in areas of the US where emission checks are obligatory.
So as this unit won't let you suffer from any power loss but provide only benefits for your environment, ... you should leave it or even change it with a new one, if saturated/exposed.

The canister has three connections, one goes to the air filter housing, one goes to the tank, and the third attaches to a short section of hose and is open to the atmosphere.

Hi Andrew,
I replaced my cracked canister with a nice used one from a 993. Seems to be working great at whatever it does.

Please forgive my noobness - where is the charcoal canister located on the 3.2 motor? I failed my smog test today but don’t believe the tech knew where the canister is. Is it in the front driver fender well, inside the boot near the oil filler neck, or in the rear passenger well? Thanks!

Hi heyitzsushiboi- from my reply on this post (page 1) Upper front right (passenger side) rear wheel well.

Is it the leaking thing?

That is your oil thermostat housing. Which is leaking.

Grab a flashlight. Lie on your back, head towards the front of the car. Look directly above that leaking housing, at the inside top of the wheel well.
