Pic request: Pre-74 Widebodies
Hi all. Im contemplating whether to convert my 70T into an RS clone or do some sort of widebody (RSR?) Im trying to guage the pros and cons, and possible get our members' opinions on the matter. In my opinion, the front nose section of an early widebody is a tad small compared to the rest of the body. Which is why I might even consider changing the front section from long to short hood, which also requires chopping the front and mating a later one. Any input guys?

Just my opinion, but if you want a short hood, how about using a '74?
They aren't making long hoods anymore! |

There was a short hood 911 RSR in '73. Also, you might consider a 911 ST. It's not that "wide" but definitely a cool car.

I already have a 70 and am not going to purchase another car just to have a short hood. Im leaning towards an RS conversion but just wanted to see if anyone had input on widebodies. |

Ok John, youre gonna have to give me more details about this car.
Where do you source front and rear bumpers for this? Do you have a shot of the rear? Thanks. |

Come on Elfer, Pick up any catalog or look in Excellence or Pano. These are very common body kits. Take a look at GT Racing on the web or look up MaShaw or a number of others.
The 73 RSR is a very cool look for a pre '74 car.

i don't have a pic of the rear bumper, but it's the same idea as my speedster, which has the SC flares. the stock bumpers were modified by adding a section of a front bumper in the middle, and grafting the turbo rear fender extensions onto the sides.
the front flare has to be extended to fill the area between the bumper, and where the flare ends, because they're made to fit a later car. some sheet metal work required.

My skinny 74T was modified to a carrera cab body with tail.
Click my "www" below for some pics. Not wide, but not skinny either?

If you decide to go with a short hood, I have:
84 perfect front frame, can cut anywhere (still on car) 81 hood, perfect 81 bumper, light carriages, very good shape. Shaun
