Targa rear seat delete

Would appreciate any information on fabrication or purchasing a rear seat delete / luggage dump for a mid-year targa. Pelican has them only available for 911 coupe models and I have always wanted one, as the rear seats to me are not very useful.
Thanks milspam

I think several folks fabricated their own. Plans with dimensions are posted somewhere, I’ll try to locate them.

Good timing! I've got this on my list too. Although my plan is to also have access hatches through the top sized to accept a standard grocery bag..held snug as a bug.

I think it would be appropriate to initially make cardboard templates to check for fit and make any minor corrections before cutting any wood for the ‘deposit’.

And most certainly with a wood finish to rival the finest British cars.

A couple important things I learned on mine (sharing for others - I know Charles has already thought about this stuff):

- The front face needs to slope back to accommodate those with longer legs. If that front face is vertical, it restricts how far you can slide/recline the seats. The example above shows some slope, but I think you want that slope further if you're tall. (The front face on my seat delete runs vertical. I'm not that tall - 5'11"- and prefer an upright seating position so I don't notice. It limits comfort for my 6'4" friend in the passenger seat.)

- You might also have to limit height of that front retainer rail that keeps things from sliding forward on a sudden stop. Try to keep a ~1.5" lip on that rail, though.

- I used thinner material when I made mine and even with reinforcing ribs it became a "drum". I pulled it and carpeted the rear seat area and underside where it contacted the body so it had some attenuation. This eliminated the "booming" from rear suspension noise.

- I made the "portholes" to access storage in the seat buckets smaller than the seat buckets. I left the doors off. This allows me to just stuff things in those holes. Seats obscure view of the contents when the car is parked. I can reach stuff in those holes while driving (don't have to fold the seats down to open the doors).

I know this post is 3 weeks old, but this is a good quarantine project!

I did this to mine years ago, and it's super handy. I used 1/4" plywood, covered it with matching RS carpeting, and put a lip on the front edge using some home depot quarter round I covered with matte finish black vinyl.

Rather than build those door pocket things on the front, I got some 6x9 wedge speaker boxes and screwed those where the old seat-etts were. Then I rested the shelf on top of those, bolting it to the back edge - looks really good and gave me a place to put real speakers!

hope this helps,

A picture? I have bolted in Sparco seats so it's hard to get back there, but let's try:
