Wow, she's a beauty. Is the scratch through the clear? The pic looks like it may buff out.

ewave 04-09-2003 05:35 PM

WOW! Stunning car! I'd try to buff the scratches out. Personally I'd perfer a light scratch over re-painting a section on the car. But that's just me.

MarkP 04-09-2003 05:40 PM

All I know about the scratch is what you see in the photo. I haven't seen the car in person yet.

A fellow Pelicanhead told me about it. I will publicly thank him once I take delivery. I don't want any lurkers snaking me on this deal.

Beautiful car. I also have an 85 Targa in excellent condition. I purchased it for 19,750 about a year ago after having a PPI. It had 59k on it and all records since new.

You'll love the car! I just bought an '85 Targa, guards red, black interior, with 28K original miles. When in proper operating condition, the 3.2L/915 combination are incredible.

Rot 911 04-10-2003 09:56 AM

In '85 did they clear coat silver? Cause it sure looks like a scratch in a clearcoat paint to me. If so, you might have some success in buffing it out. If not, keep in mind silver is one of the hardest colors to match when doing spot painting.

MarkP 04-10-2003 10:34 AM

Thanks all. cotton, looks like we have a match!

Pretty close to a done deal, just doing a final check of all of the original paperwork to verify everythng the seller has told me.

If everything passes this final check I will fly out Saturday morning and start the drive home - under 1,000 miles.

Mark, looks like a great car. The photo of the scratch seems to show the scratch in the clear-coat only. Once you get your new Baby home, take it to a high-end paint guru in your area, and run this idea past him. I have had great luck in the past by lightly sanding the scratched area with 1800 or 2000, then shooting a light coat of clear ( 2 coats) let cure, then use 2000, then buff-out. Magic if done correctly, good luck. Doug

You're going to wish the drive home were much longer than that.

MarkP 04-10-2003 01:34 PM

OK, it's a done deal at $22,000. I'm flying to Sacramento Sat. morning and driving it home to Seattle.

Anyone along the I-5 corridor who wants to be trackside support in case of problems please mail me your contact info.

Thanks for the support and ideas on the paint. Another unmolested Carrera joins the Pelican family!!!

Congratulations. Sounds like a great car!!

Brian, every mile in a P car is an 'original' mile!
