Halfway done installing new injectors and lines on the SC. I will finish shortly when the temp hits 50 and working in the garage in a sweatshirt is comfortable. Yeah, I'm a wuss.
Question is, I saw a thread that suggested priming the new injectors and I believe the process was ignition on and raise plate. Have searched with no results. Is this the correct procedure or can I just engage the starter and do the same thing? Old lines are sure a lot more flexible that the new ones. The rubber sleeves are all cracked but the lines themselves appear in good shape. That said, lines seemed to be a good "while I'm in there" project.( Stimulus $) So far, the most difficult part has been getting the clamp around the hoses and reattached to a bracket on the air box on the pass. side. We shall see what the driver's side presents.

CIS fuel lines priming........
Mike,
If you prime the CIS system by lifting the air flow sensor (FP running) while the injectors are installed, you will be dumping raw fuel into the combustion chambers. Limit the time of injection (1~2 sec. max). I prefer to do it with the fuel injectors pulled out and sitting in separate or individual containers for testing or priming. Then install the fuel injectors back. Double check that all the injectors are properly seated. Be mindful that every time you crank the starter during a cold start, the CSV delivers the initial burst of fuel before the six(6) injector come into action. Engaging the starter will do it. I would recommend checking the injectors after connecting to fuel lines, before installing in runners, by placing in separate containers and lifting the plate to see if they flow evenly. This would verify if there is an issue will the fuel distributor evenly flowing to all 6 injectors. System would then be primed and verified without flooding engine. Replace rubber injector sleeves.

Done!!
And I just started it as I would normally. Took a couple of tries until it kept running but runs smooth with no leaks at FD or injectors. Biggest pain was getting the lines back in the clamps and the clamps fastened down in their spots. While I was in there,I clipped the ridiculous connector for the heater fan and installed new single, insulated Spade clips. That double set up was just too dam hard to get apart and back together. Looking forward to a drive😁 |
