Porsche 911 Dyno Documentation Project...
 
It was recently suggested to me that dyno charts on different engines should have been included in the new book. While this was impossible due to space limitations, I can post them on the website.

So, I would like to start an "open-source" project where you guys donate copies of your dyno run, and post them to the website. Maybe we can start a thread here where you post the dyno chart and then give the characteristics of your engine:

- case
- crank
- rods
- piston/cylinders
- cams
- Fuel System
- Compression ratio
- Normally aspirated or turbo
- Boost / size of turbo
- Max HP
- Max Torque

Sound like a good idea? There must be loads of people with dyno reports out there...

Short Stroke 3.2

Case - SC
Crank - SC
Rods - SC
Piston/cylinders - Mahle, cutouts for up to RSR cams, 98mm for 3,164cc
Cams - Early 911S grind
Heads - Either 930 or SC, ported, converted to twin plug (with 964 distributor)
Fuel System - MFI throttle bodies, bored to 40mm, converted to EFI injectors (944 Turbo), MoTeC 3D injection and ignition
Exhaust - SSIs with standard 2 in 1 out banana muffler
Compression ratio - 10.3:1
Normally aspirated or turbo - Normally aspirated
Boost / size of turbo - NA
Max HP (flywheel est) - 273ps at 6220rpm – 270hp, or 245hp at the wheels
Max Torque - 231 ftlb at 5100rpm (not shown)
Dyno - Dynapack hub dyno (1.1x transmission correction used)

The 2.0 it replaced

Case - '69 2.0
Crank - '69 2.0 911T
Rods - '69 2.0 911T
Piston/cylinders - '69 2.0 911T
Cams - Apparently they were E cams
Heads - '69 2.0 911T
Fuel System - Webers
Exhaust - factory rusty heat exchangers, 2 in 1 out banana muffler
Compression ratio - ??? about 8.6:1 I think
Normally aspirated or turbo - Normally aspirated
Boost / size of turbo - NA
Max HP flywheel - 122hp at about 6000rpm - about 108hp at the wheels
Max Torque - don't know
Dyno - Bosch rolling road (transmission loss measured by coastdown at 11.5%)

If you set something up I am sure loads of people will put there figures up. I'll put mine up, 100% standard Euro but will be a bench mark. 105,000 miles no rebuild 215bhp at flywheel 205nm torque at ~5000, will have to scan the dyno print in.

The following dyno run was made on my 1981 Euro 930 about a month-and-a-half ago. At the time, the car was stock with the exception of a 1 bar spring that had been shimmed to ~1.1 bar. As of today the car sports a new Tial wastegate @ 1.1 bar and a complete C2 intercooler setup. :) I also plan on adding a Blitz EBC and upgrading the turbocharger shortly. I will be dynoing the car again soon to compare to my baseline and post the results here.

Case - stock 930.60
Crank - stock 930
Rods - stock 930
Piston/cylinders - stock 930
Cams - stock 930
Heads - stock 930
Fuel System - K-Jetronic CIS
Exhaust - stock Euro, no cat or air pump
Compression ratio - stock 7.0:1
Normally aspirated or turbo - turbo
Boost / size of turbo - 1.1 bar on 100 octane / stock 3LDZ (K26)
Max RWHP - 312.7 @ 5200 RPM
Max RWTQ - 351.0 @ 4300 RPM
Dyno - DynoJet 248C

Wayne, consider asking what ignition system also? Would be interesting to know which of the modded cars are twin-plug, or Motec, or etc. Also, will responses be specific enough to determine displacement or should you ask for that too?

Bone Stock 1980 SC 3.0 with minor fuel enrichment/ignition mods and SSIs with sport muffler:

There are two pulls shown on this sheet- one before the fuel enrichment mods and one after. It gained almost 8 RWHP and 12 ft/lbs of torque from minor tuning tricks.

Wayne - I have a few dyno sheets I can send your way (one from my 930 and one from my 911). It what would be really great if you could come up with a way of grouping these so that people can search by engine type and modification. That way people could get an idea of what results the various upgrades can achieve. Also, baseline (pre-mod) dyno sheets are very hepful.

Wayne-
If you could standardize the inputs I'd volunteer to take the compiled data and do a statistical analysis. It would allow one to say things like "X option adds 3 hp, while Y option adds 5 hp."

With such an analysis, most inputs would be best as Yes/No responses, such as Factory or Pre-80s (?) Heat Exchangers. The fewer inputs the better. The downside is that certain data is not used, such as component manufacturer, but hey that's life.

Excellent idea and we're definitely working on it, Wayne!

The Chicagoland crew is working on some upcoming dyno sessions/events (hopefully within the next few weeks or within the next month)

We'll keep you all posted.

Dyno Shop for group rates??
 
My 70 S now has a 2.7 RS Spec with MFI. I have always wanted to put it on a Dyno and see what the real HP is. I am sure many Pelicanites feel the same. I know the books state 210 hp. What is it REALLY?
Anyone have connections to a So. Cal. shop to help us ALL out? Maybe give group rates and pass the info to Wayne?
