Wiring of front turn signals
Hello everyone,
before going into details of my current issue and start with my first thread I would like to take the chance to introduce my self to the community. SmileWavy My Name is Johannes, I'm 29 and from Munich, Germany. I'm working as in Program Manager in the automotive industry since 3 years. I'm passioned about cars since forever and bought my first 911SC from 79 right after university and take the chance to drive through the alps and Italy as much as possible :) The car was a reimport from italy w/o any main issues. But the pre-owner did some strange reworks on the electricity and changed also other few things on the car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586939781.jpg During the Corona-Shutdown I'm now working on the electricity and I hope you guys are able to help me out. The pre owner eliminated the wiring for the front turn signals and I try to restore that. I need your help to understand how this wiring was placed in the car. I can't find the locations where the wiring was going through the body to the fenders. Those are the pictures from my car and the possible locations. Pictures from your cars would help a lot. Thank you in advance. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586940652.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586940652.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586940652.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586940652.jpg |
Hi guys,
I would really appreciate some pictures from you cars. This would help a lot. Thanks |
Pictures.
All I have are the factory schematics.
It will be difficult to find pictures as all of the wires are inside the bumper. Good luck, Gerry |
The signal wires are in the same harness that goes through the fender wall directly into the headlight buckets. There are normally 3 flat connectors inside the headlight bucket for the signal lamp wires to connect to. Then the signal and running light wires come out of the headlight bucket down into the bumper.
The holes for the lighting harnesses inside the trunk are further towards the front than your photos show. |
Passenger side, you can see the horn wires going in, the headlight and signal wire harness goes in beside it.

Hi Timmy,
Thank you for sharing, but I’m referring to the turn signals in the side fenders. The ones you can see on the picture of my car. Cheers Johannes |
Welcome to Pelican. I just had to fix my turn signal wiring and found the images in this thread to be very helpful:

Hi Cory,
Thanks man. I guess we are talking about two different turn signals. But I’m not sure if those were also part of US Models?! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587073373.jpg |
Yeah those lights are not on the US models
|
Ok, I think those are only the side marker running lights for Europe. not turn signals that flash. 1980 and newer I believe. My ROW car is too old to have them... :)
|
Assuming the turn signals are wired correctly and include the 3rd wire for the side markers, and they have the two metal spades on the back of the turn signal housing, you could run a pair of wires from those spades to the fender mounted marker lights. You could test it out just running the wire under the fender or with a test light, if it works it would probably be cleaner and more correct to route the wires into the trunk and back out to the fenders.
|
These are the spades or terminals I'm referring to on the housing:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587098200.jpg If the signal housing only has 2 wires coming out of it and not 3 this likely won't work because the 3rd wire is for the marker lights. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587098297.jpg |

Hi guys,
thanks to all of you :) See attached the actual wiring. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587284570.jpg |

Looks like Gerald makes them. Perhaps he could help you with where they are routed. Photo shows the grommets and that they connect directly to the fuse panel wiring, not the front signal lights. |
...now if only I could find the boots that cover those side marker lights, that'd be great. I have to add them to my European bound 911 and have all the parts.....except those boots and can't find them on PET...

Did you ever finish this project? Am trying to figure out where the 'side markers' tie in to the car. Will be taking the fenders off soon and just wondering your outcome? Not sure if my US spec car is prewired for these, or if there is a work around. Thanks! Erik |
Actually I will ask the forums.
For those out there that have removed the fenders for various projects are there connections under there for the side markers??? Looking at the harness I am ordering it seems like simple connectors.... Has anyone else installed these and have some insight? I have spare fenders and this is a project I am trying to do. Just curious. Any information is appreciated! Thanks - Erik |
My 964 has plugs for the repeaters toward corners by the fuse box. I have thought about adding the lights but I haven’t been brave enough to drill holes in my fenders. Also not sure if I need to pull the fenders to route the wires.
