Anyone ever see this switch below the plate covering the pedal cluster...?

The people who installed the alarm (Viper) states it isn't part of their alarm and this was there from the PO who doesn't know anything as he didn't ever do anything to this car himself.

I thought it was a cutoff for the alarm but now I have no idea...

Thanks for any help!!
Bryan

What pedal was it under? If it was under the brake then maybe there's the answer. If it was under the throttle maybe it was for the afterburners.

I agree. the build quality is the giveaway.

It may pay to check if it is connected to a bomb under the seat. Unlikely but still worth a look.

Yep, brake light switch. Looks similar to the one in my '69. I had to bend the metal tab to get it right again.

Gordon,

That is a McGyver brake switch mounted on engineered lumber and made in USA. The Germans never thought about it. Our host does not carry it anymore.

Engineered lumber ? Not so much....... really thick cardboard more like..... Lets see that get wet a couple times..... I was thinking it might be a safety trigger for a theft deterrent system or a trigger switch for an explosive device.

funny update

Well, I think we figured it out. The brake switch is correct. As you can see in the photos the wires aren't hooked up to the brake switch on the master cylinder anymore.

Any ideas why someone wouldn't have just replaced the brake switch and instead do this... boggles my mind.

Any help or ideas on how to eliminate other than just removing and replacing the wires to a new switch would be helpful. Also, anyone have the wiring schematic for this switch handy?

the red wires travels to the 4th fuse spot on the fuse panel. In addition the 2nd fuse is missing in that row.

You can see it appears as though they hard wired a relay as well and then wrapped it in packaging tape..

Early 911s had mechanical brake switch.
Some people do not like the hydraulic brake switches and adapt mechanical switches as a redundant system.

That package taped relay might be for air conditioning. I say that only because it's a lot how mine looks! Thanks, PO!

Yeah it's only connected to the brake switch wiring and A/C wouldn't have anything to do with the brake pedal.

I ordered a new brake switch guessing the one there isn't working..

Gotta love Appalachian ingenuity and engineering. Probably not one of us that hasn't done a little during our lives on some vehicle. Just seems like it is better suited to a Pacer than a 911.

I would only speculate they did not have a wrench to fit those two brake pressure switches and they are a pain to replace. But the contortions needs to get in to the brake pedal area is even tougher.

So my guess is they did not have an 22mm offset box wrench. I will admit I don't have one either, but my 7/8 works perfect as it in 1/4 of a mm oversize and for the torque and size of those pressure switches, it is perfect.

Yeah, just had full repaint and rebuilding motor as well so she's empty right now along with boxster caliper brake upgrade.

I ordered 2 switches from our host and will replace.

Anyone have a wire schematic for brake switch so I can tell where the wires travel and also their color combo? Thank you!
