Wiring 911T

Hi All, I'm currently restoring a -71 T. I bought it in boxes and I have dreaded the day I had to deal with the wiring. I got most of it in plastic bags without any markings.

I have now got the front fuse boxes in place.

I noticed after a while I had some discrepancies. I have what seems to be wiring from a 70 instead of a 71. Maybe my car is early? It is a Karmann built with serial nr 120558. It is a car with Euro spec.

It got me puzzled when I had two connectors on my luggage compartment wiring. Now I know they are for relays for the wiper motor.

So I have run by the SL35 wiring diagram.

There are some wires I need some help with.

Here my guess is:
Fog light front (which I don't have)
Fog light rear (which I don't have)
Is black an extra horn?

What do you guys think?

Here is a green/white (I think) wire next to the black/purple (that goes to the tach).
Where does this go?

The two blacks I think goes to the wiper motor.
The brown is of course ground.
Where does the brown/white (I think) go?

Thanks for any input. I have spent a lot of hours getting this far with a magnifier studying my wiring diagrams!!

What do you guys think?

The two blacks I think goes to the wiper motor. All for glove box lamp
The brown is of course ground.
Where does the brown/white (I think) go?

hey send me a PM if you need pictures of specific parts. I have a 71T that HAS been apart but I had all the wiring gone through and it 'should' be factory :-)

I can send you pics of my setup if you need it. Everything on the car works (well except rear defroster doesn't heat up, elements bad on glass....).

Assume you have the wiring diagrams too? they are very helpful!

Thanks! Appreciate it! Do you have the wiper setup with the two relays in your car? That's what got me wondering when I started.

Many years of building harnesses helps me to easily recognize the wires and how they are grouped.
Sounds like you have the 70 style wiper relays.
You have to remember Porsche used what was on the shelf to build these cars.

Hi All, working my way through all parts of the system I got stuck at the ignition switch wiring.

I don't recognize these colors on wires in my wiring diagrams.

Grey goes to grey on the steering column switch?

Yellow is radio?

Thick red goes to light switch?

The others are black/blue (close to the yellow). The other black/blue goes into a connector and from there a short black/red.

Is this harness going to work for me?

Appreciate your help!

Yellow is radio, grey connects to a lead from the turn signal switch harness.
Red goes to light switch. Blue/black wires are part of the ashtray/heater lever lighting. (They use this harness as a short cut from one area to another)
Use this drawing on your computer to rest your eyes...

A rear showing grey wire connector. (Above number 87 in the right middle area)

The linked diagram is for a 1970, so it should help you with the wiper circuits.

Thanks Dennis, I have this diagram. I'm sitting with a printed version with a magnifier!

I was puzzled that the ignition switch didn't show the blue/black wires.

Are there any other resources showing switches and their individual wires and where they go?

Also, I guess the numbers at the switches, 15, 30, L, R, 49a, 31, for example, are helpful. Can they help me in some way?

KR,
Jörgen

The numbers are terminal numbers for the device.
No real device charts other than the schematics and hands on experience.

It is a learning curve.....

I ordered a laminated diagram for my 71T From https://colorwiringdiagrams.com/ and it's awesome quite a bit clearer than my print outs from the on-line sources when chasing wires. I've been using every source I can find though

… I tried saving a PDF of '71 schematic into jpeg in order to download - because PP doesn't accept the PDF.

I annotated the diagrams to highlight the parts relevant to the electrical wiring. It's a little bit of a time saver and eliminated the back and forth between sheets.

If you'd like a PDF sent your way, PM your email and I'll loft one off.

good luck,

Send me a PM with your email with any specific requests and I'll see if I can grab pictures for those components that aren't too much effort to get at.

My wipers have I think 4 speeds, intermediate, slow, medium, fast, and they all work.

OK! I'm glad I have this forum to turn to...

Here's some more questions for you:
Where does this brown/white wire go?

Also, what is the purpose of this setup? Yellow wires connected. (same switch as above)

This brown/white wire coming of the fan switch. Where does it go?

Thanks All!

Jorgen, I believe the brown/white wire on the steering column goes to the horn ring underneath the steering wheel. The brown/white from the fan switch goes to the glove box door switch.

dho

I think I've got most of the front end sorted. Just one last (!!) question.

Where does this guy go? White wire off the fan switch socket.

Take care,
Jörgen

Gas heater option. Most years it is a blue wire.
