Yeah, I like rear-ends....Butt I've always had this problem...

I got my RS fiberglass from PP a couple days ago and I've been looking over the threads on exhuast/muffler setups. I'm putting a prettymuch stock 3.0 in the 73 and wondered what people have done with their ...ahem...rear ends . The stock RS muffler was a 2-in 1-out, but the stock motor was a euro-speck 2.7 also. Yeah, performance is important, but looks make a difference too. So, lets see what we've got out there! If you've got a rear-end worth showing off , lets see it! Mine doesn't look too good just yet...at least I got the flares on!

Are you running heat exchangers or headers?

They are quite a few different ways of going about it....are you going to race? Do the tracks have sound limits?

Do you have to pass smog or other emission tests?

Stock '79 SC exchangers/ muffler....for now. I know that I'll pick up a few more hp (15?) if I use earlier exchangers. I'd like to drive the beast for awhile (it's losing some weight in the RS conversion process) and then look to add maybe add SSI's down the road and compare performance. I don't race...yet. Live at 5000 ft, emissions are Colorado rules.

If you use stock SC exchangers, then you can only use a single in muffler and replace the cat with a euro style pre muffler. Since I live in CA....I am not familiar with your smog regs.

You may pass w/o the cat, IF they do a sniffer test....but it is recommended to do a pre-test first and adjust the air/fuel mix if necessary.

I have a 73 with 3.0 SC, SSIs and a 2 in 1 out bannana. I am trying to find a cheap used banana to convert to 2 in 2 out like the rally cars. I dont want to cut up my good muffler until I know wheather or not its too loud. Not really concerned with ultimate power just love the looks of the rally muff. I dont have emissions so I have a little more freedom. I believe our host sells the 2 in 2 out muffler, if you can stand the noise I think it is the neatestr looking option out there.

Ok, EW...this begs the question...what does the rear of your 73 look like? Are you stock or flared?

I have my stock '79 euro exhaust running around loose in Table Mesa if you want to do any test fitting with it...

Mr. Earl,

Your car is a 73 so you can get the Colorado Collector plates. After you pass emissions the first time you never have to do them again as long as you own the car. Just keep your stock setup in the attic for when you sell. Your car looks nice with the suttle flares. Are those SC or RS?
I'm sure it will finsh out nicely.

Who's going to do your paint?

You might want to check the rear of Chris Streit's RSR replica. Its nicely done indeed.

Flares are SC...don't tell anyone. Thanks for the tip on emissions. The painter is a secret...if I posted the guy and his affiliation, I'd get laughed off the board. He is a guy who got his experience working for an "insurance-shop" and kinda went out on his own. He did a beautiful job on my 74 and I plan to use him on the RS. (I hooked him up w/ Dart and I think they've swapped some stuff for painting.) It's probably going to end up one of the Porsche-Audi dark blues... maybe a "zenith blue". I'd actually like to get more of a dark blueberry color, but still have it be a Porsche code. Who is going to help you stuff that monster back up into your SC?

Dennis, that's what I'm talking about...rear ends...Got an easy link? Anybody got a better looking rear....maybe what we need is some side-by-side comparisons...BB I vs BB II ?

Speedo,

If your painter is who I think it is, you should ask him for a pic of the rear of his street beast. It should be done in the next couple of weeks.

I'm a moron and just got beat up by my computer, but check the recent thread on rear flares two or three pages back. or search Chris' postings. There are a lot of his cars photo's in the archives. Time to go home and have some hobby time Maybe speed a little on the way
