Case closed on gross over-reaction
I am an idiot. I totally over-reacted. For any folks on the board greener than me (if thats possible... ;) ) things are not that bad when
1. Oil drools out of your airbox (don't let someone that doesn't know what their doing put 12-13 qts of oil in your car in late November in Buffalo when your thermostat hasn't completely opened) 2. Worry that something weird got sucked in your intake when your oil looks white (its condensation) 3. Worry a little bit if there is fuel in your oil but understand that it only take a little fuel to stink up your oil, especially when your car has been way overfilled, (change the oil and monitor it) In closing, being humbled by this once will prevent it from happening again.. P.S. In addition to buying 2 cases of oil (going to change it again to remove ALL fuel from oil) I had to buy all of my neighbors a case of beer since I smoked up the block burning the oil out of the system and minimize peer harasment. Thanks all, Matt |
Matt,
Don't worry you're not the first and won't be the last. Just watch the posts and you'll see it again in a couple of weeks. Hell I do it during the summer on purpose during mosquito season and collect the beer from the neighbors as a service fee. Dan O |

Hey Matt If you gonna buy a case of beers for all your neighbor you should also buy a case of beer or at least a six pack for all the poster that took the time to reply to your post. I like that German beer Heineken. Wrong beer should have been Beck |
Matt:
Don't sweat it. When I was new to Pcars, I had a '78SC sitting in front of my house for four months under a molding cover - it had sat in the company 1st-level garage for 6 months prior to that - only started so I could take it home and replace the oil for the guy (I volunteered knowing NOTHING). Just sat there, day in and out, rain and shine and cat pee on the Fuchs. I studied up, decided to unload my TR6 to make up the scratch, and purchased the SC. Checked the oil stone cold - "Gee that seems low." You know the rest of the story. To start the car I was pumping on the pedal, draining a near-dead battery, etc. You should have seen the smoke cloud - equiv. only to an old Austin Healey I had worked on where I *forgot* to put the gasket back on the EGR tower. THAT was a mosquito-killer I can tell you! So you got a taste of humble pie - we all have! And you don't owe nobody nothin'! John |

Free beer if you post on this thread I'm in I like Guiness,
Yes, if you overfill the oil you will get what you got. When can I expect my six pack? Oh Yeah! Thanks |
Holy crap, how is it that beer seems to both create and solve all of the worlds problems?
ruf-porsche, next time your in Buffalo send me an email. We'll definately go drinkin. mikez and targa 80, I am actually out in LA next week. My wife and I rented a convertible Mustang for the week. Wanted to rent the twin turbo 911 from Budget rental of Beverly Hills but $1000/day was just ridiculous. I can hand deliver some beer if your anywhere near the Hermosa Beach strand area. |
Hey, what about me? I like Guinness too :D Can you and the wife make a detour to Chicago in the Stang? :D
|
Hey Souk
Are you the owner of SOUK on Milwaukee ave in Chi town? Great belly dancing and the food isn't bad either according to some friends. What a ZX7? couldn't be a bimmer, Mazda RX7 all trick out? |
Domanows:
Thanks for the offer, I'm not close I live an hour north of LA without the rush hour traffic. With rush hour traffic it can be 2 hours. Have fun at the beach it will be much warmer in LA than Buffalo. Don't forget to take the bus tour of the movie star homes. I liked the Johnny Weismuller (Tarzan) home, it was boarded up but had a really neet pool. It looked like an african river. |
ruf-porsche: I don't own "Souk"...wish I did. I have been practicing my belly dancing in preparation for a hostile take over :D
Souk is a middle eastern term for a market or bazaar..hence the food and atmosphere at "Souk". Funny thing, I have been back in the Chicagoland area for 3 years now, and I have not been there! I think there is another one in Seattle. I'm not middle eastern, and my name has a long story to it..well not that long, but I'll keep it a mystery. We should organize a drive to dinner there for the chi'town gang. What'cha think? Sorry Doman..just hijacked your threads...glad you don't need a new motor tho :D |
Ah , I love a happy ending . Seriously though glad you're sorted now Domanows

Yup, two most common newbie mistakes, adding too much oil and dropping the dipstick down into the tank. Luckily this board saved me the embarrasment of either one.
Two months ago a guy showed up to his first AX with a really nice Carrera targa, smoking like a big dog. He's owned the car for a little over a month and accidentally dropped the dipstick into the tank. Not wanting to take a chance he added another quartof oil. Talk about getting both of them out of the way at once. It's funny now but I really felt sorry for the guy. |
By the way Souk, we're flying to L.A. and renting the stang there, but ever since I got married, my wife has been forcing me to travel (says I work too much) and Chicago is on her list, but after L.A., I've got Oregon in June and Jamaica in August. Wanna join me for snowboard camp at Windell's at mount Hood in June?
|
oOhh! Sounds like fun trips. Wish my lady forced me to take vacations :D She just wants projects done on the house :(
Oh well, I cant join you on Mt. Hood, but you can send pictures to the OT board so we can all say wow! :D See I'm trying to keep this board clean(hahaha). If you are in the Chicagoland area, give us a shout..we have some great Pelicans in the area. |
I am amazed how easily posts on this BBS veer off into beer.
...I like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, just in case anyone was wondering. |
