Is this new bearing wasted?

I had the whole brake assembly back together and everything was fine. When I started to press in the hub it went in a little crooked so I gently tapped it out. I then noticed the outer part of the bearing is really sloppy now, you can see the gaps in the pics between the two halves and there is a ton of play now.

How did you press it in? If you pressed it in by the inner race, then your probably destroyed the bearing. The force needs to be applied on the outer race.

I pressed it in with the outer race, It was nice and tight with no slop. I think when I tapped the hub out today I damaged it, but i barely tapped it.

Pull the hub in while supporting the inner race from the back. Doesn't look like it came out enough to damage it. If the flange turns nicely with no lumpyness when it's buttoned up, probably be ok.

When you pull the flange out you typically pull some of this bearing apart. Conventional wisdom says it is toast. The most common reason to pull the bearing is to replace it because it is making noise - and when disassembled shows pitting on bearing surfaces and maybe balls also.

But assuming it was a new bearing, I don't think it is toast. Pulling the flange tends to move things apart, because to some extent when the bearing is not installed some of it is held together by the seals. When installed, the plate helps keep the seals in place and as a kind of backstop for the outer race.

When you reinstall the flange the parts will push together some, and when you torque down the stub axle nut they are pulled together. It is not like you scratched something, or broke something.
