Steering column tube replacement
I'm converting a 911SC racecar back to street and the original steering column tube has been modified, the bracket for mounting all of the switches has been removed. Obviously I'll need signals and wipers so I need to replace the tube for a stock one.
I have a parts car I can take the tube from. It appears to be riveted on from the factory in 3 locations, both ends are round with no bolt heads. You can buy this tube separately, but it's basically part of the chassis and probably never really gets removed in normal circumstances. I assume I'm going to have to drill it out but I thought I'd ask here before I fire up the power tools. Picture of a replacement tube: ![]() Mounted in chassis: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There are three security bolts that when they were torqued up the heads broke off. With a Dremel or cut off wheel cut a slot in the head of those bolts so a flat screw driver can be inserted and un-torqued. Some people got luckey and were able to use a small pair of vise grips to grab the head and un-torque. I did this last weekend

Done, used your method. They both came out good, only one of the bolts really fought me. You can see the part on the right had all of the brackets removed. Back in business now with signals and wipers.
