Question How to remove the doors?

Dear friends,

I have this 1982 911sc that I would like to remove the door, so the question is what´s the best method?
1-) remove the bolts from the hinge
2 remove the pin from the hinge

Also on the drivers door there´s 3 harnesses that goes inside the car, how do i disconected them?

Thanks

If the door fits the car like it should right now, you'd be wise to remove the door by removing the hinge pins and not the hinges themselves as you could spend a LOT of time getting the door back on correctly screwing around with the up/down in/out of the hinges.

I found that it's really difficult to remove the hinge pins with the door on the car, without the pin tool from Porsche tool P 290 b.

Instead, I used an ATV jack to support the door, and just removed the 6 hinge bolts. Very easy. You must support the door while moving it away from the car so that you can disconnect the wire harnesses. One is inside the passenger compartment, one in the front trunk, and one inside the fenderwell area. They are very easy to disconnect. The hardest part of the job is to drive out the rollpin.

Ok, and is there any trick to do this job? Or just hammer it out?

Use a hardened steel punch of the exact right diameter. I used one from a set that I bought at Sears.

I just took a door of off my '70 and it wasn't easy. The top pin did not want to budge. If an '83 is similar you don't have a straight shot at it with a hammer and punch. If you mushroom the pin its never coming out. In the end I just marked the hinges and undid the bolts. I found the top pin was loose in the bushings so I had to remove it anyway. What worked really well was inserting a couple of 1/8" shims between the pin head and the hinge. There was a slight gap still in which I inserted an air hammer chisel. This worked very well. I wish I had taken a picture! I can get one if you are interested.

+1 on making fit. Question Ricardo... how's the fit now? If you're going to adjust anyway, might as well forget forcing pins out and remove bolts.

I am stripping my car to the tub for glass out repaint.

I removed the hinge bolts, but first gutted the door and pulled the wiring. at that point I could hold the door with one hand when I removed the last bolt.

good luck.

Here are a few pics showing how I got a stubborn pin to move. I hope my little recreation scene is adequate. The shims I had laying around. I probably got them from the generic do dad section at the local parts store years ago.

I chose to remove the hinge from the jam, but traced it in sharpie prior to removal. with you painting this might not be doable and it appears you nailed it. I would plug the hinge holes prior to paint. any amount of paint getting in the pin races will create all kinds of grief.

I am restoring my 911SC and from everything I read I thought removing the door pins was going to be a big hassle. Many threads talk about the need for the special slide hammer tool which is expensive.
I made the tool in the picture using a piece of angle steel. It fits both top and bottom pins (you have to have the car lifted a bit to get the hammer under there for the bottom pin).

One or two hard hits with a 4lb engineer hammer and they each popped out. Boom. Easy.

Took longer to make the tool, and to tape around the area to protect the paint if the tool slipped, which it didn't.....

A while back I had this tool made. You attach it to a metric threaded slide hammer. I also used a piece of pipe as a safety spacer so you don't hit the body. I would redesign it to bring the slide hammer farther away from the car body. However, being cautious it works fine.

One pin on both doors was frozen requiring the hinges to be unbolted. Once the doors were off the car a little heat help to get them off. I'll be replacing the bushings and pins when I reassemble.
