3.6 originally automatic trans engine Engine to Manual?

This may be a stupid question, but is the 3.6 engine and CPU independent from the trans it has? Can you use a 3.6 engine from a auto car with a manual trans?

Yep, running a former sportomatic 3.6 with my 915 trans.

The DME harness for a 3.6 has a coding plug that tells the DME whether it powers a manual or automatic transmission.

don't believe that to be true for 993, I'd need to look it up for 964

This I know, For 993 there is a 2 pin coding harness branched off from the DME wire harness near the control unit connector

There are 3 maps selectable
open - RoW
bridged w/ a 1kΩ plug, 944.612.492.00
grounded via a US only harness -US & Canada w/ SAI

The Tips have their own harness which codes the DME

The main difference other than coding between the m/t and tip harness is the lack of a reverse switching wire to activate the backup lights,

On the motor itself I seem to recall that there is a throttle switch not used on the m/t cars

All that said they can be used w/ some extra work, mostly to activate the reverse lights

Sorry for the late reply. Am I inviting a major pain by getting a 3.6 auto trans engine and matting it to a G50 trans? The reverse lights issue seams easy enough, yet ECU issues is way over my head. I have no formal mechanical training other then YouTube. :p
