SWB must do Upgrades
I’m sure this has been beaten to death. But I can’t really find anything.
I have a 1968 912. It’s getting a 3.0 upgrade and full resto mod R hotrod wherever I end up. I want a decent performing hotrod. Don’t need to stay original at all. I am staying with the narrow body seeing have have really nice quarters and fenders. So what are some absolute musta on upgrading this car? Because of the quarantine I can’t get to any any meetups to see others cars to talk and get ideas in person. Unless someone invites me over Suspension Shifter Maximum wheels size. Etc....... And anything you guys can add would be great. Thanks. Last edited by stubble88; 05-24-2020 at 07:24 PM.. |

When I started on my 72T, 22 years ago, because of the expense, I first removed weight. Remember performance is power to weight. Fiberglass hood and Ducktail, aluminum trailing arms, light weight muffler, single battery, light weight seats and so on. I went from 2350 to 2200 lbs. That made a noticeable difference. I later moved from the original 2.4 to a 2.7 and now a 3.0 twin plug with a 9:1 power to weight.
Since I like autox and track days suspension and brakes came as well. I'm not into big fender flares that emphasize the potential of the car so I stayed with more a stock look and just run semi soft tires (180 treadwear). I like the idea of a sleeper rather than "in your face". Just me, Kent ![]()
