Whaddya mean there's a GT-40 in my group?!

Yep... Suprise suprise when I looked at the grid sheets from Sundays race. Sitting behind me on the grid was a 67 GT-40 in red!

Beat 'im though, took second place behind a 'vette... I'll have to post the grid later so even I believe it...

Was a good race... I was stuck to that White/Blue Corvette like stink on a monkey for the entire 30 minutes, I doubt we were ever more than 1/2 a car length from each other the entire 30 minutes. We were both pushing so hard that we nearly lost if several times.

Unfortunately I made one mistake for every one he made, so I never did get by him. The driver is a guy I've been racing against for 3 years now, and we always seem to end up near each other... But he's a very freindly guy, and very consistent, so we have a good deal of trust for running tight together.

The GT-40 was not really optimal for this track, being short and tight. No pictures unfortunately, but I gotta tell you having that thing barreling up into your rear-views is more than a LITTLE distracting!!!

*snurf* alright, but that's no ordinary Mini...

Gotta admire those cars though, I think they only brake like once or twice on the entire course!

oh yeah...this is street legal!

Man Chris, I have a new admiration (Spelling?) for you track guys...wheel to wheel racing is tough. Below is a picture of a couple street legal cars I seen on the Nurburging this weekend.

Always somebody standing, or walking on front of me as I take the picture.

Or working on the car.

Finally a clear shot.

See I told ya!

I think a very large GRUPPE B decal across the hood in a diagonal orientation would be just killer...I'll pitch in a few bucks for the sponsorship payment for the primo placement

Is Smitty reading this? How about it Smitty can you work you magic and give Chris a taste of what it might look like?

Chris,
Any details on the spec for the mini?

That looks like a great race series. Brilliant variety of machines.

Chris,

Do you have details on the "GT40" also? I didn't see any pictures above. Red, Mk IV, guy from Milwaukee who usually runs #6 on the car?

If so, (and I'm assuming it is) that car has been the source of a little controversy. As I understand the story, only a few supsension bits and the wheels are original. The tub and most of the rest of it are custom built one-offs.

I've seen the car, and while its some beautiful fabrication work, IMHO, its a replica, not one of the 12 or 13 original Mk IV GT40's. Its a relatively recently created car, and I guess you can decide for yourself how that jibes with the spirit of vintage racing.

Its my understanding that, for vintage sanctioning bodies who are more stringent about "vintage" vs. newly produced, the car is sometimes entered using the chassis numbers of one of the original Mk IV's that were allegedly destroyed by Ford/Holman & Moody.

In any event, it would be great if you could post additonal pics if you have them...

Thanks,
Tim

Tim,

I didn't get any photos of it unfortunately. The camera batteries ran out before the day was over. I believe the car hailed from the Midwest, but exactly where, I won't know untill they post it on the AMB transponder website mylaps.com

There certainly is a lot of contraversey about that stuff in Vintage. Personally I'm not sure what I think. If the car is equal in every way, I say, let 'im run. If however it is simply an outwardly appearing replica that , for instance, substitutes better metals, different suspension geometry, etc.. I qwould probably have an issue with it.

Chris, I honestly know nothing about the mini. There are a handful in the group that just look like an absolute blast to drive though!

How about a Gruppe B fender Decal?

Chris:

Thanks for the tip on the transponder website. I've been doing this HSR / SVRA for a few years and never knew that you could get lap times / info from that site. How does the race santioning body / racer register the event / transponder so the results get posted?

Do the results give more information than this similar page for HSR? Watkins Glen

It must be better than waiting at timing & scoring for copies that sometimes never arrive...

Heading to HSR at VIR? if so, we'll see you there.

Jason
