Manuel 917 wood shift knob?
I have a jwest shifter and want to get the beautiful 917 wood replica knobs I have seen here from Manuel.
Does anyone know if he still makes them, and how to contact him? I saw the ones listed in the pelican store, but was unsure if those are the same and didn't see a specification for Jwest fitment. Thanks again guys! |

Why not contact slodave here? He's the one who makes the knobs sold here on Pelican. It's just a bushing. Either he already has one for your shifter, or he can fab one up to fit your application.

He’s still making them and just recently made me one with a threaded insert for my JWest shifter. Here is his email: porsche356sport@yahoo.com

That's true. Dave does some woodwork for Singer. If you look at the current issue of 000 Magazine on the article about the Singer Mulholland car, there are a couple nice shots specifically of the dash and shift knob

I’ve got a Ruf 5-speed with a dogleg 1st gear. Who can do a 917-style knob with that pattern embossed on it? I believe the shifter Ruf used is (or is based on) a G50, with a cap on the top of the knob that covers the securing nut.

I have a very early version of the 917 wood replica knob. (BTW, it is NOT the one by Manuel, mcv1954).
I finally tried to mount it but it won't fit on or stay on. I tried 2 different crush rings I had in the shifter stuff box - one is 14mm ht. (gets pushed up into the holle in the wood knob and knob won't stay on) and the other is longer (knob won't go on at all). Any ideas? I'm wondering if the hole in the knob is undersized - it measures 16.9mm I.D. The shift shaft is supposed to be 0.6" = 15.24mm from another post (I haven't measured it). I'm not sure what you mean by silicone (?)
This one is bare wood inside - just a drill hole for when it was chucked on a lathe and turned down to a ball... |

The silicone you use as a bath sealer, it will stay on but it will not be tight, the hole is too big. Even if you managed to install it with a crush sleeve, the wood is softer than the aluminum of the sleeve and it would loosen over time, that's why my knobs have a brass inner sleeve.
