Pulled CIS line/ injector from intake manifold

So I was finishing pulling the old brackets in order to do a heat backdate on my 83 SC. In the process I seemed to have pulled one of the injectors out. I noticed this while I was wiping down the rigid lines afterwards. It easily pushed right back in, and the the car started and seems to run fine during a two block test run.

I was surprised it pulled out so easily and more surprised it went back in without much more effort than plugging in a lamp cord to an electrical outlet.

Should I be concerned?? I’m supposed to take a 60 mile trip on Sunday.

CIS fuel injector.........

Bob,

If you could easily pull the CIS fuel injector out that means the o-ring is not tight enough and could cause air leak. Normally, you need a puller or a set of wrenches (12 & 14 mm) to pry the fuel injector out. The air leak might not be big enough to cause running problem.

Best thing to do is do a smoke test and find out for any sources of air leaks. If you can not do the test before your trip this week, I strongly suggest that you take with you a small container of petroleum jelly or a vacuum grease for emergency.

Use the vacuum grease or petroleum jelly as an emergency repair for your air leak/s around the o-rings. Plus this is much easier to clean and remove afterwards compared to RTV. Have a safe trip.

Thanks for the quick reply Tony. The grease is a great idea. I have a tube of dielectric silicone grease I can bring along, or maybe I should just put some on before I leave. I called the local Porsche dealer to see if they had the oring seal in stock, but no.

It has me thinking when I get a chance maybe I should pull the intake runners and reseal the injectors and replace the rubber sleeves on the other end.

Just replace the injector donuts, don’t over plan the idea.

+1

It's job to replace the orange sleeves and outer o-rings. Dremeling old crimps, re-establishing new crimps.

Your donuts are as hard as rocks, I betcha. It's a good start.

Do that bigger stuff in conjunction with a top end rebuild and/or when you have the engine out.

Hi Bruce, that’s my inclination but no one around me has them in stock, and I leave for my 120 mile (60 ea way) trip Sunday, so I’m trying to figure out if I should go or not... it doesn’t sound like it should be too much of an issue that I need to cancel.

You'll be fine. Vacuum keeps them in place. Order some and do it when you have more time.
