Tail light gasket replacement
This car never ceases to amaze me ... i go to replace my now severely weathered gaskets.. and i cant believe the gum rubber type glue they use is still tack after over 40 years.. i get the old gasket out and i'm now wondering what to put the new one in with , if anything ? i have wurths rubber cement i used for my Targa bar seals. Would that be okay or are there other recommendations ? the wurths stuff is moe like contact cement than anything and wont stay gummy and pliable im thinking.
Thanks

3m weather strip seal is what I used. The trick is to treat it like contact cement. If you just apply and stick it wont stay. So you let it sort of dry before contacting the seal with the housing, then it's permanently stuck on. Overall a tricky job. Test fit them dry a few times and get some tape to hold it in place. They are super fiddly.

I just did that job last week. I used the 3M super weather strip in just a few places around the edge to hold it in place while I reassembled everything. I think the pressure of the light housing against the body will hold it in place after that. Whenever I take these things apart, I'm always thinking about the next time that I take them apart again.

I can’t remember the details and I’m not sure I could easily find the post now, but I seem to remember someone found a near perfect match for the original from someplace. I want to say it was McMaster-Carr. I remember it because it was posted right after I finished the job using the 3M weatherstrip.

the dum dum was originally used on the back side cover of the rear tail lights assembly
