Wheel weight remains

I thought I saw a posting in the past but can't seem to track it down. Just got a new set of tires and the shop was able to balance all of my Fuchs on the inside, but removed a mother-load to weights from the outside....

What is best and most gentle way of removing the paper remains and gluey stuff that is left behind? The Fuchs themselves are in great shape just look weird with the stuff left behind.

Thanks for the advice.
Adam

Do the stronger products require and sort of immediate follow-up?

Thorough washing + treatment of any kind. Can they do any long term damage?

If you are afraid of the chemical route just get it good and wet to soften it up some.

I got mine off after going through the hand car wash.

Little bit of work with the old thumbnails and the stuff came off.

3M Adhesive remover works great! it's a little expensive but I'll tell you that stuff works great for allot of other uses. and a little goes a long way.
The biggest Plus is, no matter what you use it on it will not hurt the paint.
Look for the Red one quart can. you can't miss it.

I'm not going to say anything about good or bad about the various chemicals as I've not been brave enough to put anything harsh on my Fuchs!

The proper follow-up treatment is vaseline to protect and treat the anodizing. Clean the wheels with a mild cleaner and rub the vaseline in with your fingers, wiping it off after it has had time to sit on the suface.

I'm with Jorge and Teutonics

3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover is great stuff. I use it on all sorts of things. Safe for most any painted surfaces.

You never know though, so do a small test area first. Original Fuchs paint is not harmed by 3M GPAR, believe me. But if your wheels were repainted at some time, that paint may not like the solvent.

If it's safe for your paint, put a bit on the sticky stuff and let it sit for a minute. Be patient and let the stuff do it's job. Rubbing right away won't be as effective and you'll just end up wasting the stuff. Scrape the goo off with something soft like a plastic spatula or a wooden paint mixing stick. Leave the razor blades and the like out of this job! Don't use anything abrasive. It's not necessary!!!!!

Goo Gone or WD-40 work pretty well. Rough up the double sided foam tape a little so that it will absorb whatever you put on it. Let it soak and it will come off with a finger nail.

Another vote for 3M adhesive remover. I bought it for the garage and use it all over the house. Does a great job removing glue, adhesive and all kinds of goo, but is very gentle to most surfaces. I don't think you'll need it for the wheel weights though. Let the wheels sit out in the sun for awhile to warm up and then "roll" the glue off with your fingers. A little elbow grease and the glue should rub off.
