Home with My New Carrera!!!

Special thanks to fellow Pelicanhead Mark Setzer from Sacramento who emailed me photos and info on this fully document, one owner, for sale but unadvertised, 85 Carrera Targa with under 25,000 miles!

Within a week the deal was done – I flew to Sacramento early Saturday morning and drove it home to Seattle – 800.0 miles door-to-door! Title issues were resolved.

The car is just fabulous, looks and drives like a new car. No rattles, tight, fast, no oil burn/loss. Turns out it was a different color than I though from the photos – White Gold Metallic (539) instead of the pewter it looked like. All the better as the white gold was the color of our first SC and has always been a favorite.

The car was driven 22,000 miles between 1985 and early 1993. From 93 to late 2000 the car was stored due to a divorce dispute. In 2000 it was towed to a shop for post storage tune and going over, since then it had been driven less than 3,000 miles.

Photos of the trip home below. We ran in to some snow up by Mt. Shasta, other than that in rained most of the way home - no targa leaks.

She needs a good detailing and some more fun driving…

Odometer just after I picked her up, 24,664

Where did this come from? It's snowing!

Home and ready for a good detailing!

Wow, nice find! Looks to be very clean/straight. I like the color as well. It almost looks like Platinum Metallic (ala Island911's car).

That interior looks so fresh - reminds me I need to get the steering wheel retrimmed. Why do you guys do this to me? Going to have to polish the dials too!

Mark, sorry I missed you this weekend. Definately the one that got away! I''ll go cry now. I feel like Cris Farley when he would hit himself in frustration.
Thanks for the last email to me, totally not necessary, but very much appreciated.
Glad everything worked out!!

911 and Porsche World had a small article in the Letter section about a web site for the 3.2 fanatics. The guy considers the Carrera the "icon" of the Porsche 911 line. While I must stand by my SC, which let's face it carried the flag against the tide of even The Boardroom, the Carrera is my very, very close second.

Nice looking car and a great, non-ticket catching classic color. Looking forward to seeing this one around town!

My pleasure Mark - thanks again, this is the jewel I was looking for.

Anyone else looking for something similar - There is a 25,000 mile, one owner, 88 Carrera Targa, black/red for sale at Redline Service in Tucson, asking $30k. I can't seem to find the link to their web site now.

One thing I forgot to ask all of you Carrera owners -

The footwell is very narrow when compared with my previous 911's. I keep hooking the left edge of my left foot on the wheel well wall when depressing the clutch. This causes my foot to slide or lose pressure on the clutch pedal. Maybe I need to adjust the pressure point out so I don't have to depress the clutch pedal so far.

Is this a common problem that others have noticed?

Very cool Mark. Fly in and drive back is such a neat way to buy a car. I bought my first 911 in Seattle and drove it back to Dallas a couple years ago. Great memories. Congrats.

Mark: Your footwell problem is a common one. You'll get used to it. Enjoy the car! It's a beauty.

The question is: Did you turn the radio on for the 800 journey or enjoy the music from the engine?
