Lightbulb Making 3.2 badge for early cars.

I have decided to manufacture a 3.2 badge in the style of the 2.4 and 2.7 badges on the early cars. I don't think anyone makes these and I thought it would be cool for an early car with a transplant.
I will keep you guys updated on my progress. I am not going to mass produce these but, I had it drawn up on Unigraphics and have a .prt file if anyone wants it. It could easily be modified to say 3.6 (Are you listening Jack Olsen?)

If you are going to make up a few, I'll buy one.

The badge will be a replica of this one.

Shawn,
How are you going to manufacture them? I have been thinking about CNC machining a 2.5 badge (1 part = expensive!) for my car, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I assuming that since you used Unigraphics and .prt file in the same sentence, you are thinking CNC also.

Would a small casting, like a jewler would do, be possible? Keep us posted.

We are doing these out of stainless on a CNC machine. Sand blast the background then polish the numbers. Probably come in on a Saturday and run them. I don't know how many we will make. But if someone has access to a cnc mill I can write up a program. Or send the .prt file. Like I said I don't want to go into buisness making these but I can send the file to anyone that wants it. If I don't get a huge response I will try to make enough for anyone interested. I was thinking around five or so.

There's a guy in R Gruppe who did this by having a jewelry maker make it.

If you can find an inexpensive way to do it, I think there'd be a small but reliable market for them. I'd be interested in one, probably. Or two. Or... well, I've got a lot of tails.

I've replicated parts using RTV silicone molds and pouring Antimony, Tin and/or Lead. Pewter is also possible but I haven't gone that route yet. A relatively inexpensive mold can produce about 100 quality pieces when using a decent Silicone compound. Pliability of the item can be influenced by the mix of different metals. The CNC / stainless approach is top notch though.

How about a 3.6 version? Or at least a sticker, kinda like what Jack has.

I've a friend, who happens to be a jeweler, ring designer-type, make a 3.2 for my 73's rear deck grille out of silver. Easiest to work with, I think I spent $55 for the whole deal. I took him a 2.4 badge, and he mimic'd the font style pretty well.
When I next get the car out of the garage I will take a picture & post it here...

ps: What I would really like to see, maybe Wayne could find a source for the old back window decal of the engine outline with the displacement script. Some years back, the old Automotion had in stock replicas of this for every displacement up to 3.2 or maybe 3.4... I think one could selll a LOT of those?

Even do differing outlines for webers, mfi, cis, dme, motronic, TURBO, Twin Turbo!!!!!

Bill,
Perhaps one could design on their PC and print onto Decal Paper. I think I have some at home and it was pretty inexpensive. I believe color works a well.

Thom,
I probably won't do a 3.6 badge. But I can draw it up in Unigraphics and write a CNC program for it if you know any machinists out that way...

Hey, that would be cool - I just happen to know a local fab shop with a CNC!

Thanks!

I've always wanted one that said "2.0/4"

If the time on the machine is the costly part, and not the individualized programs, would it be possible to make various badges?

I'm in for one if you can make enough.

Thanks for the effort.

Cheers.
