Goodyear cantilever slicks vs. Khumos for autocross?

I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with running both the Goodyear 15" cantilever slicks and Kumho Victoracer or Ecstas. Right now I am running the Kumho Victoracers on 16" Fuchs, 265's in the rear and 245's in the front on an RS bodied early car.

I like the Kumhos, but I have enough points left in my class to run the Goodyear 15" cantilever slicks. How will the Goodyears compare to the Kumho's in terms of lap times and durability? It looks like a set of the slicks will be about $100 more than I am paying for the Kumhos.

Thanks

Wouldn't slicks take too long to get up to temp for an autocross?

I have just started using the AVON 15" slicks. They have a 7.5 x 21.5 and a 8.7 x 21.5 for 7 and 8" rims respectively. Have only done one round but first impressions are OK. Great gearing advantage, rears are roughly equal to a 225/35/15.

Round 2 is Easter...

The Goodyear slicks in an autocross compound would be faster, but why would you use cantilevers unless the rules limit your wheel width?

I can use a 7" or 8" rim with no points. Once I hit a 9" rim like I currently run with the Kumhos it costs me points.

I have run the slicks (both Hoosier and Goodyear) on a track car, and I too think getting heat in them would be an issue, it takes two to three laps to get them heated and working, until then they are slippery. Unless you can heat them up somewhere I am not sure how you would manage to get them working in an autocross.

I don't know what the "autocross compound" is, must solve the problem....

Most people use the softest compound slicks for autox. They heat up quickly and start gripping well in just a few turns, but don't wear well at all and can be easily overheated in a heavy car driven hard for continuous laps. Hoosier R25A compound and Goodyear 160 or 210 are most commonly used. The Hoosiers are quite amazing, really, but just for the first 20 laps. They start falling off after that from the heat cycling.

The 430 compound Goodyears will last about as long as Hoosier's DOT radials, Curt, but no where near as long as your Kumhos, and they won't get as sticky as quickly as the 160 or 210s. You're plenty fast on the Kumhos already, anyway, you don't need any stinking slicks...
