Sweet baby Jesus! The JWest Rennshift is a nice piece of kit!

I just received my Rennshift that I purchased here with my PCA 10% discount. Went with the black +2" lever. What a nice item! Install was about as simple as you could get. Hardest part was removing the center console and carpet.

Feels modern now. Only thing I would say could be done better is the instructions/documents. They could benefit from better images regarding the adjustments and options. But that's nit picking.
I already had a solid coupler so it might not have been as dramatic an improvement as some see but I'm loving the notch-click precision and the raised lever and shorter throws. The added sprung gate on the 5-R side is very much welcomed. Adds to the precision feel and keeps me from the occasional grind downshifting to fourth.

I added a $9 shift knob from eBay and feel like i'm a little bit closer to my vision of a nicely improved affordable air-cooled 911 that fits my driving style like a glove!

Next up is my new Car-Bone floor mats!

I just opened the box I got in the mail today, Rennshift shifter, bushings, coupler, clamp bushing, and a big stainless knob. Can't wait to get it on the car.

Just put one on my 914-6 and it transformed the shifting. No more guessing or missing shifts.

Have a Seine on the 911 and it performs beautifully as well. Seine doesn’t make one for 914 6s.

Hmm, I have one for my tail shift 914-6, still in the box! I had Tangerine Racing rebuild the OEM shifter and it works so good I will not be using the Rennshift!

I really like my Rennshifter- also black extended stick. I had a used one bought on the board here and replaced it with a brand new one a month or so ago. I put a longhood shift knob on it and kept the SC rubber boot.

Geronimo did yours come with the shifter knob? I ordered one a couple of months ago and it did not come with a knob. Is it optional? I bought mine thru Clint at rebel.

Knob does not come with. Rubber boot does, along with all the mechanical parts and the cup bushing.

Bought a new early 915 shift knob from Pelican. Surprisingly affordable.

I got the stainless One Million pound knob from Renn.

RDM, which 917 knob did you get, I wasn't sure which one was a direct fit with the Rennshift lever?

Also, how was the install? Anything to look out for?

What about getting the adjustment just right? Any tips?

I have no center console already so that might make it a few steps shorter

Lastely, did you find any install information online that was helpful?

I recently installed one of these in my '72 hot rod as well. While I have never been a fan of the "short shifters", this one has proven to be a fantastic upgrade over the original '72 shifter.

Be careful when ordering shift knobs for these things. Porsche shifters use the crush sleeve, these do not. They use a 3/8-24 set screw that is first screwed into the bottom of the knob, which is in turn screwed down into the shift lever. Hence the set screw, since they have no head on them, just an allen socket, so they are threaded full length.

Oh, and one other thing - I found it helpful to put a couple of drill starts into the side of the shift lever, at the bottom, where the two set screws hold it into the shifter itself. Both of my set screws loosened one day, leaving me driving down the road with a shift lever that would no longer shift the transmission. It would only twist in the mounting hole when I tried to shift. A couple of shallow drill starts where the set screws contact the lever and some red loctite have fixed that problem and gained some peace of mind.

I got the earlier stock 915 knob, which is just like the knob in my old longhood. About $20, surprisingly, since they used to be on the high side of $100. See it here:

Actually, James was pretty smart about this. He put the threads on the inside and tapered the shaft, but at the top the shaft diameter is the right size for the crush-sleeve knobs.

It works with either style knob.

Here we go- black crinkle-finish extended stick with early crush-sleeve 915 shift knob.

I am having some trouble with the 5-4 shift. Anyone troubleshot that yet?

Cross post from another Rennshift thread:
I'm pretty sure the ID thread on the Rennshift is 3/8-24. I made my own shift knob out of some 1 7/8 in (47.6mm) snooker balls. IIRC the 917 knob is 47mm so mine is reasonably close in feel.

Just a few of the color options.

If anyone wants a red one let me know I've got several to spare.

Hmmm . . . don't want to put a damper on all the enthusiasm here for these shifters -- I know they are great -- but, for what it is worth, there is something amazingly vintage and right about a well set up 901 in a first generation 911. I have more modern stick shift cars, but I love the way the synchros feel on my 1970 gearbox. Just sayin'
