Grundy Insurance - Experience?
I have been using State Farm for a while for homeowners and auto insurance - including my Porsche. Seems reasonable. I recently inherited a 1980 Triumph TR7 from my Dad and am close to making it road worthy again. I called my agent and she said it will be $500/yr for insurance! I am paying about a third of that for my "83 911 SC with a stated value of about $40k. When I raised a stink she said she could reduce it to $250 with no collision and comprehensive. I went out and did some searching and found Grundy for $76 for the year with $3,500 stated value. Before I send in the check - which is a no brainer - I wanted to see what experience the forum has with Grundy?
Thanks! ![]()

I have been using Grundy for many years I have no complaints the customer service has always been great. I would highly recommend them. But I have never made a claim so I do not know how well they handle claims

Did you ask for classic car insursnce (like on your 911) for the Triumph from State Farm. Sounds like they quoted a regular policy.
Also, when I looked into Hagerty for my 911, State Farm (my cars and home and umbrella is with them) was lower For the same classic car policy.

Grundy is fine. Condon Skelly is great for modern super cars. Hagerty is also fine. Sometimes their premiums are higher on vehicles that dont fit their appetite. I have my 911 with Hagerty. Rate is best compared to the other companies. No idea why.
Client bought a new Ferrari California, and Hagerty wouldnt insure. Condon Skelly did and the rate was like buying a Honda. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No claims experience with them (and that's probably the most important part). I just switched a few months ago. Grundy was a lot cheaper than Haggerty, and pretty close to AAA (with whom I was previously insured). But I added the 1990 964 to the stable, and AAA wasn't willing to add it on to my existing policy (car not old enough). So I switched.

"Stated value" is not the same as "agreed value". Stated value is a maximum that they will pay, whereas agreed value is just that—agreed. If the car is a total loss, on a stated value policy State Farm can still pay you less than your $40k if they think the real market value of the car is less than $40k. It's actually a racket for them.
I have my '72 911T covered for $70k with American Collectors. They were the only collector insurer who was willing to an agreed value during the restoration process that actually covered my investment even with the car being ugly before the paintwork. They were cheaper than Hagerty, Grundy or Leland West as well. Reports I got from people who have had claims said they were fine to work with.

I had Grundy for about 15 years for 3 classic cars. In the span of the last 5 years of it, I hit a deer with one, ran over a toolbox at night on an interstate with another one, and (the knockout blow) my son totaled the third one in the rain. They paid out quickly and without drama each time, but dropped me after the third incident. Can’t say I blame them. Over the span of 15 years, they paid more out than my premiums could have added up to.

Wow, hope no one was hurt in those, Ken. At least two of those can be chalked up to bad luck.

Heacock is also a great company to deal with.
I feel Haggerty has gotten a little big for their britches, as my Dad would have said. Impressive job building their brand, but their customers are likely paying the vig. John |

Way too long of a story re a friend's HAGERTY claim for his totaled Porsche....customer service was abysmal, endless hoops of frustration and angst. My HAGERTY renewal comes up this month and based on his experience I'm going to look elsewhere. Shameful experience particularly with how HAGERTY markets heavily itself with the Porsche crowd. I could care less (within reason) about 'rates'.....it's all about service and compensation when you need it.

Take your porsche with you to Grundy. YOU DO NOT WANT to deal with a claim on your car with StateFarm these days. The worst of the worst. Used to be the best only 2 years ago

Another happy Grundy customer here. Never had to put a claim in, but rates are decent and agreed value is always a plus.

Thanks. They are literally the only insurer that I deal with that I have to warn the customer that they will likely have to pay out-of-pocket costs because StateFarm will not pay for what is necessary. Mind you this is on normal late model vehicles. When it comes to classic cars it is abysmal.

Me too, plus they were $600 a year less than Hagerty on a car I am driving less and less every year.

A friend lost a half dozen cars to flooding, and Hagerty paid out quickly on his claim. I guess the service when one has a claim is probably the most important. I’ve had State Farm for my cars, home, business, etc. for years and their claim service was always top rate. Sorry to hear that that’s no longer the case.

Grundy was to restrictive for me. I read all the fine print and realized that I was not being covered for driving to work or to the shops, etc. Hagerty was more expensive, but now I can drive as much as I like.
