Is Bentley the actual Field Service Manual??

Hi all!

Is the Bentley Service Manual the actual field service manual that Porsche dealership mechanics use?

I just purchased one for my model year and it is a far cry from other FSMs that I've used for other vehicles. I can't seem to find any reference to any other FSMs, either in forums or on ebay.

Anyone have any insight? Thanks very much.

Ps. I've stopped posting to Porsche subreddit because the community there is mostly about posting pictures of their cars and I've also stopped posting to rennlist because there doesn't seem to be much of a community there at all anymore... Super glad this forum is still active and helpful!

It is not. Many aspects of the Bentley manual are correct, but many are not. Wiring diagrams in particular can be incomplete or just plain wrong. The workshop manuals are typically found in burgundy three-hole binders.

Note the plural. For an SC, the full set is six burgundy three-hole binders. The first two are the original issue, and the rest are supplements for models since 1972. The information in the supplements has to be put together with the information in the first two volumes.

The Bentley is better organized. The factory manuals are much more complete.

For ths SC manual it appears Bentley revised the Carrera manual since there are a number of photos that are actually Carrera photos. They have an error correction webpage but it's doesn't come close to correcting all of the errors.

Pelican has some good discussions on the errors. Here's one of the threads.
