911SC Bentley Manual "Errors"

Errors, Sort of, but there must be more...

Outside Mirrors - they have 2+ pages on late Carrera mirror repair - SC are very
different proceedure to replace the glass.

Dash - show big side vent dash and there are differences

Horns - show Carrera, and say to repair/replace you must remove the entire
bumper and valence. On the SC, it's pretty easy to just go in from the
wheel well.

Just from flipping through my copy I've seen NUMEROUS places where there are outright errors, charts on several pages in a row with bad data (ehem, the A/C section...), and lots and lots and LOTS of blatant references to the Carreras instead of the SCs...

I actually wonder if the SC book was written AFTER the Carrera book, and that many pages were simply ported over instead of rewritten...

FWIW on the Carrera you do not need to remove the entire bumper & valence to access the horns either.

That would actually make sense... it seems that way.

Keep running into these things. Frustrating in a manual that's that expensive, and supposed to be "The Bible".

The SC manual was written after the Carrera one, so they probably did a bit more unverified 'porting over' than they should have. Plenty of errors, granted, but still an invaluable resource.

The thing that really gripes me is they only cover the 915 tranny, even though the cover of the manual states it covers 84-89. No G50!

I have the early editions of both the 3.2 and the SC manuals. They refer to the oil pressure switch as an oil pressure sensor in one section, then in another they have it right. Small error, unless you are unfamiliar with the car. Many errors on the wiring diagram (wire colors), and the wire colors on the power mirrors are incorrect too. It just goes to show you, make careful notes when you are disassembling.

But still, way more helpful than the factory manual for me (more pictures).

Still better than anything else out there. Even with my 3.6 transplant I refer to it often.

I remember checking their (Bentley's) website,..they did have several corrections posted ( at least, on the Carrera). You may want to check it just for info.......

I'll have to look at the webpage, but I bought mine NEW 2 weeks ago...and it's still copywritten 2000. I guess they don't sell enough to make an appended version

Bentley had an error on the rotation of the SC distributor causing a Rennlist member to blow the air-box.

280-2 and I quote " the ignition rotor turns in a clockwise direction. " ....
- SPark plug wires must be installed so that the spark plugs fire in the correct order..

He didn't have the correction..

John D.,
How do you view all the Porsche SC corrections?

FWIR, they also misidentify the TDC/5 degrees mark on the crank pulley in several pictures.

I copied this picture from the Bentley website today (without their permission)
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=pc94

The caption on their website reads "Adjusting the idle mixture"
I kid you not.

There are several errors in the description of the CIS lambda system and in the testing of the sensors. Every manual has errors, the difference is in whether they are interested in correcting them.

In the Carrera manual, some of the pictures and most of the graphics show a CIS airbox.

Besides errors there are several instances where data is blatantly omitted. The book is good but without this forum it could be dangerous in some instances.

I have marked questionable stuff in the book. I would share but it is packed away in my car for the holiday treck to Virginia.
