Sump plate doesn't have a plug...only option is to pull the plate?
First time changing oil on my '76 2.7. Drained oil from tank and went to pull plug from sump plate and there's no plug! Since there is no side plug on the 2.7 I guess my only option is to drop the plate?
I don't want to do this for every oil change. Any nice after market plates other than the factory replacement? ![]() |

Mine's the same and I'd love to see a plug on it. The reason it's lacking one is that the sump pump pickup fills the entire space behind it. I guess large pumps come with some disadvantages. It does make a nice warm oil fountain when you take it off!

Wouldn't this one work, as well? I really don't want to replace the studs to use the aftermarket kit. That seems risky to me..

I'm not sure if that cover will work.
There were modifications made to the pump that year increasing the output of the pressure side and the scavenger pump was slightly reduced. They also changed the oil flow by having the pressure relief going to the pressure pump suction vs the crankcase. Someone with more knowledge will need to advise you on this cover. |

Just loosen it so it drools and have a beer while you wait.

My 2.7 had a retrofit sump playe with a drain plug.
The drool& beer (or is it beer then drool lol) idea sounds like a good plan b |

The 2.7 sump plate had a drain plug. It appears that someone replaced your sump plate with a later style.

I don't bother draining what sits in the sump plate. It's only about half a cup, or a full cup. Not when there are another two or three liters sitting in the oil lines and cooler.

I have a 77 that had the same issue. I put in the one Harold above notes......no problem and easy to change the oil going forward.
