Centerline Wheels for Porsche?

In some of my older VW & Porsche magazines from the 70s and early 80s, I've seen pics of 911s with Centerline (or at least Centerline style) wheels, but I can't find them anywhere now, new. Or used, for that matter.

Anyone have a set or had a set and want to offer some details on brand, etc.?

Thanks!

This is the type of wheel I am thinking of (but with 5x130 pattern):

There is a movie from the 80's called "The Soldier" with Ken Wahl. Toward the end of the movie, he is driving a silver 930 turbo with centerlines. Look it up on YouTube. I think it looks nice with those wheels. Probably not made anymore.

Isn't there an issue with brake cooling, or would it be minimal?

I'm sure for a track vehicle really taxing the brakes, it could make a significant difference. For a street vehicle, shouldn't really matter much I wouldn't think. Pretty sure I've seen racecars using that style wheel, though, so maybe doesn't affect it as much as you would think?

Ah, my bad. Too bad those have holes in them, I'd be interested.

Are they and were the ones you had, actual Centerline brand?

Thanks!

Yes, I had a set of 7&8X15s and a set of 7&10X15s..

On the cooling, fine for street, and also Auto X (what I used mine for)

Centerlines

I have a set, in Michigan.
Paid for, but I never got a chance to pick them up.
I believe I paid $500 for them.
I can ask the PO to ship them satisfaction guaranteed; otherwise ship them back to me. Will this arrangement work?

Centerlines - there's a word I haven't heard in a long time. I remember cleaning them with Windex before going cruzin with the VW gang on the weekends. Good times!

Funny, just got these pics today from two friends. The one on pit road looks to be a period photo.

In the mid 70's a fellow Porsche Racer by the name of Jim Cook had Centerline build wheels that fit our 911. Several of us on the West Coast purchased 15x15in Centerlines to run on the rear of our GTU Race cars and 10x15 on the front. They were strong and fairly light. Ducting on the solid centers were a must. Later, Jim supplied us with the type that Byron pictured. The rears were reduced to 12x15 because IMSA changed the rules on the GTU widths. Jim supplied these to us at a very reasonable price compared to the Factory Alloys. They were also 1in wider than the 11in Factory Alloy.

I still have three of the 12x15in wheels. One of which I have never mounted. I have not been too willing to part with mine since Jim passed away during a IMSA Race and he was a special special person. His efforts for the privateer racers have been surely missed!

One of the alternatives is Duralite - still made right here in Ada, OK. Very similar to what Byron has, and I think they made solid centers at one time. I don't think they were around in the early 70's, but I know they've been making wheels for a while. Here's an old set that I sold to Martin in Ft Collins;

8 and 9 x 15 Duralite wheels - for PCA racers

They were nice - light and strong.

Wow, had no idea there was a wheel manufacturer in Oklahoma. Everyone still meeting at Wild Fork on Saturdays? Really miss that.

Awesome - thanks for the pics and info, guys. I'll look through my old magazines, pretty sure the GTU 911s were the ones I saw.

Resurrecting an older thread...

I have a set of 8x16 and 12x16 IMSA Centerlines. I am debating whether to move to Fuchs w/RSR finish or stay with these vintage wheels.

With the rears being 12 inch do "you" suppose that they may be ones that Jim Cook made?

This car was "Frankensteined" back in the 70's.

This is them on the car now refinished in black enamel.

Centerline manufactured the wheels out of Southern Ca. Jim Cook was reselling them to us Racers. I am not aware of the 16in pieces since we all were using 15in wheels and most of us went to BBS or other light weight 16in wheels.

I like the vintage wheels on your car, I'd leave them.
