Intro Post & help from fellow Pelicans needed

Hello fellow Pelicans,

My name is David. I have been a member for a long time, but mostly just read and tried to learn as much as I could. I have a 1974 911, which was my late father's, with metal flares, and I think the complete turbo look. She's powered by an 87' 3.2L Carrera motor + transmission, and equipped with 930 front calipers. I drove the car for about 7 years making repairs here and there as things cropped up. After countless hours on electrical gremlins, scouring the internet and repair manuals to figure out what is what, coupled with starting a family, I decided to take the deep dive and make sure this car will be safe for my wife and son as passengers.

Here are some photos of the car when it was still running. She's been off the road for over 3 years now.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592951175.jpg

The car has been stripped, put on a rotisserie for body work, straightened and painted. She is currently awaiting parts for re-assembly, and here is where I need help from the community. The body shop discarded all of the broken parts including the brake hard lines, when they stripped the vehicle. Currently, I am lost trying to figure out which brake hard lines I can use. The vehicle will primarily be my daily driver, I might get back into some HPDEs down the road, but will most likely start with AutoX first.

Here are some photos of the brake related parts I have taken. I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out what I need to get her back on the road sooner than later.

Going down the body work rabbit hole

One day I decided to take out the carpet covering the rear seats to trace the aftermarket speaker wiring to see if there was a short. Lets just say I should have just lived with no speakers.

After peeling back the carpet, I saw some surface rust near the driver side rear seat pan. I figured, I'll keep peeling back and just wire brush the stuff off. Here's what I found
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592954913.jpg

I decided to cut out the infected and replace with new sheet metal from restoration design. After cutting out the old and cleaning up the area, I enlisted the help from a friend to help me weld in new rear seat pans.

I need professional help

After spending what some would say was "too much time" working on the body, electrical, and nonstop reading I decided my time was better spent with my family and decided to leave the work needed to the pros.

Patience is a virtue

I was hoping the bodywork and re-assembly would be done within a year.... 3 years later here we are.

Hi David,
Looking good, your father would be proud. :)
Lol, I just figured out your user name. Funny.

Thanks Dennis, and thank you for all the new wiring you helped me with, which is amazing quality btw!

Thanks,
Wish I knew more, or really anything, that could help you with your request for help with the braking system.

Hopefully someone that is a brake guru will read your thread and help you out.

The courage that people show here on this board to take on these projects is astounding.

I should be so brave.

That is a hell of an introduction to the forum.

That is no small project! Impressive work so far, but what a pile of stuff to reassemble!

The PET for your year should show all the brake lines, brackets, screws, etc that you need, though a friend nearby who will let you look at his car will be invaluable.

Wow.

All of the hard lines should be available from porsche. I would start by bolting on all the suspension components first and get it rolling. A wanted ad on the 911 parts subforum here could turn them up too, along with whatever else you need.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check porche's catalogue to see what they have put up a wtb once I know what I need

Getting her up as a rolling chassis is a good place to start.

To make sure this car will be safe for your wife and son, be sure to weld up those speaker holes in the rear deck - no penetrations in the firewall.

You can look at the thread n my sig. but you are way beyond it already.

Best Wishes!

I likely missed it - enjoy working on the car!

PET = Porsche Ersatzteile. Porsche spare parts catalog.

Wow this is a big project. Cant wait to see it come together!

75 911s 06-24-2020 05:11 PM

Nice project! The 930 brakes is a nice upgrade. It would be cool if you put ITB or carbs on the 3.2 - You going back to original color? The car is far from original so you have full license to make this whatever you want and whatever color you want.
