Porsche Crest Wheel hubs and bearings

I just started a project to replace all parts that wear down in the front and rear suspension in my ‘89 Targa with 127,000 miles. It started off far more difficult than the books and posts Would suggest. Removing the front hub bearing grease seal and the the races on front and back side were like removing stubborn molars. In the process, I scored the hub per the the picture. Would be OK if I hit the roughed up spots lightly with a grinder, or is precision so important that I should send them to the machine shop?

Is the on the race or the hub? I just did this on my '67 here is a video on how I removed and reinstalled the races in my hubs.

I think you would be OK with some judicious grinding.

You are only affecting a small percentage of the total area.

Agreed - the outer race needs to fit all the way in, but cleaning the bumps on the side and inner stop should do that. The loss in "grip" on the race from a small low spot on the side won't matter enough to let the race get loose and spin, and on the "stop" side won't matter at all - a stop is a stop.
