AC Protection Bar Removal

I'm trying to pull the protection bar from the front end of my 89 3.2. I can't seem to get a socket or wrench on the nut - looks like there's a bolt in the frunk, but I'm assuming the nut will just turn if I can't get anything on it. Do I need to grind down a wrench to get it to fit? Maybe the bar is bent which is preventing access? Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a pic of the nut from the bottom of the car (protection bar as well)

And the frunk, which I assume is the bolt coming through:

The bolt in the trunk is what you take out. The one you show is the right one. The nit is welded to the bar at least on the ones I have.

Indeed, nut is fixed to the bar, just unbolt from the inside. Bolting it back into place is more time consuming...

Unless you are doing a dedicated track car or on an massive weight loss for the car, you are better off to leave it in place. Even if the AC is gone, it will provide protection from curbs and road debris. No doubt it weighs a couple of pounds, but it is very low, and very far forward.

It is your car, so remove it if ya want.

As much as I try to not pull too far forward that bar has saved me a handful of times.

Removing it to replace the control arm bushings, tie rods, ball joints, struts. Definitely will be putting it back on! Days of doing stupid crap like saving 5 lbs on a daily driver are far behind me fortunately lol! Going to hit it with some POR15 after sanding it down.

Thanks for everyone chiming in - truly appreciate it.
