Engine noise 2.2 with Weber’s
I have recently developed an engine noise and can’t figure out where it’s coming from. The sound is more prominent on the right bank. Sound like rocker noise, but not sure. Need valve adjustment ?? Gets loud at times.
Any input would be much appreciated. Video link is listed below. https://youtu.be/1wr4C_joDRY |
Pete,
A valve adjustment is the firs thing I would do. Even if that is not what it is at least you have eliminated it. Although I do think that it is a loose valve. You should be go ... hopefully! Best of luck, Rahl |
Does sound like valves. But have you got under it and felt around the exhaust ports for a leakage. Header pipes maybe.

Is this sound there when cold...if not - valve loose, if yes broken valve spring. To find exactly which cylinder ,use long screwdriver one end to each cylinder and the other in your fist and year

Thanks Guys! The sound is there when cold. I guess it’s the valve spring as Evan has stated. How do I chk this?

Another possibility is the chain tensioner on that side. I had a chain tensioner start to let go and the safety collar made a similar tapping sound as it bumped the tensioner body at lower engine speeds.

So i solved the noise on the right bank. it turned out to be the chain tensioner. Now I have a ticking sound on the left bank. No sound when cold, gets louder as the engine gets to operating temp after a short run.
I have checked the valve springs and they seem fine. Also checked the tensioner on that side and its seem solid. Any ideas? Here's the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx2wow7HBwo |
