Front Strut top nut torque
I put my front struts back in (along with the rest of the front suspsension). Bently shows 58lbs torque for the top nuts in the front luggage compartment, but as I turn them, they don't go over 45lbs, and the rubber donut turns underneath the round plate. What am I doing wrong?

hit 'em hard and fast w/ an impact gun, otherwise as you tighten the strut insert will begin to spin incide the housing, thus not letting you put all the torque on it.

I have an air impact gun so this is very easy for me. I just count the number threads exposed before the job, and make sure that the same number of threads are exposed after the job. Not really scientific but close enough for government work.
For those who do not have air guns, you can try to hold the metal ring stationary with a pliers of some kind, or pipe wrench, but that is still hard

Just the answer I was looking for. Finishing torquing all the various fasteners on the front end after replacing bushings and was struggling to get 60 ft/lb on the top strut nuts. THANKS!

So, just put an impact on it and go brap, brap? We pro's love your solutions. Just don't bring it to us after you break it. And make sure your friends at a track day know, so they don't follow too close.Try holding the large upper washer with a pair of channel locks, cushion the jaws with a rag, and counter the torque wrench.

Wedge a screwdriver into the notch in the large top washer to keep it from moving.
Torque away. oops - 15 year-old thread ???
