$385??? That's insane.

Nice when it works out! Double check your actual voltage at the battery terminals 13.9 to 14.2 is my range with the beast Nippondenso I installed.

OP, Nice voltmeter there. Congrats on the DIY. |

Had the conversion done about a year ago, very glad I did it. The cost was about $750. Not cheap I know, but I love the look and function. Hartmut Mees at PA was great to deal with. Jason |

You will learn to love the voltmeter on the tach. After many years of having mine I find myself checking voltage as often as oil pressure and oil temp. It is comforting to KNOW that the alternator is charging at the proper voltage. I had my internal voltage regulator give up the ghost, and it nearly cooked my battery back before I had the volt meter.

Question - how do you judge correct tension of the fan belt? Deflection should be about 1/2 inch at mid-point, right? ... but how much pressure are you using to test it? I don't want a too-tight belt, given my experience with alt bearing failure. Jason |
OK, now for that 6200 RPM blast part 2.
|
Just apply moderate finger pressure to the center of the belt, deflection should be 1/4" to 1/2". The factory probably had a spec for it but I have never seen it.

The way I look at it is to tighten it just enough so it doesn't squeal.

I will say it again, just get the Porsche branded fan belt. It is the right size, and has the right angle to the sides of the belt. Yea, it is expensive, but it works like it is supposed to without moving shims around.
I went through a couple of aftermarket belts and could not get them to fit right. The Porsceh belt is perfect fit. Almost like it was designed for the car! ;) |
