Installing Turbo tie rods
I have removed the rack from my 85 911 and aim to rebuild it and install new turbo tie rods. Bentleys' say to measure your old tie rods and set the new ones at the same measurement in order to preserve steering alignment. Makes sense. However on removing the old tie rods I find they are different lengths by about 12mm (1/2 inch). Is this normal or should they be similar lengths?
Also does anyone know if the guide bearings at each end of the rack are available as mine have some slight wear and movement? |

Your tie rods should be the same length on each side. Regardless you will have to re-set the toe on your front end. Sounds like you may have to recenter your steering wheel as well. No way around it. You can measure the tierod ends to get you only in the ball park.
I would like to know if anyone can find a source for those bushings. I could not find them a number of years ago.
