AXLE QUESTION G96 into 69 911

Axle question: I'm installing a G96 transmission into the 69 chassis, with aluminum trailing arms. Flange to flange distance is 460mm. I'm not precisely sure how to source axles for this. Any insights?

I'm not exactly sure what "stock" length is for the 996, or Boxster, or Cayman (which is what this trans came in) , nor am I sure what to do on the wheel side (vs. the trans side) of the axle. Are they fairly universal?

Do I go fully custom with this? If so...what measurements do I need?

Do you have a thread on this trans install? Sounds rather involved, and I would be interested in seeing how you went about it.

OK, as I am subscribed to that thread, I guess it is time to start watching some of your videos......

Somewhere on here there is a thread where there is a 993 6 speed going into a long hood. It might have some good info, if you or I can find the link.

I mean...it's been so modified that the actual trans install is relatively straightforward. But I'm quite interested in the axle sitch. What trans did the 993 use? G50?

993 uses a 6spd G50. It ain't any easier to fit into an earlier car:

Fitting 6 speed G50 to '89 Carrera

I got some very custom axles from The Driveshaft Shop for my Mini EV conversion...They ran me almost two grand. The Porsche 930 axle flanges are super common, so you might not have to spend that much. I feel like there's gotta be a shop that's offers 930 axles in any length off the shelf...

‘87-‘89 G50 911 axles should work as long as the trans placement matches up reasonably close to the stock location.

I am not as familiar with 996/997 transmissions but Boxster S which can’t be too different uses a normal G50 diff, a 993 LSD bolts right in.

Pretty sure the 996/997 output flanges are standard 108mm 6x10mm bolt pattern just like every other g50 911.

This thread might be a useful thread:
CV and Axle Cross Reference

When I fitted a G50 to my 69 I used the original 69 driveshafts. They are almost too long, should have pushed the gearbox further forward.
Measure how wide the g96 are between flanges and then check against a 901. You probably will have to push your gearbox as far forward as possible to extend the length between flanges.
