internal regulator
Hi everybody. I have installed a new Internal Voltage Regulated Altanator in my 2.7 1975. I have seen the writing on how to use a resistor for the dash light. But can i jump the old three leg connection from the old external regulator so it will charge and light goes out on dash?

No, you need the extra load provided by the resistor to make the new VR work, and turn off the light.
Just disconnect and tape off the old VR wiring on the rear fuse panel.

The Porsche part is NLA.
Mouser has the 5watt 91 ohm resistor and terminals. Easy enough to make.

Is it necessary to have the resistor. Is it all wires on external regulator i just tape, what with the black on the distributor?

Yes, the Resistor is needed. PM me and I can make one just like the one in the photo for you. (without the lamp holder in the photo)
$18 shipped priority mail in the US. Tape off the Black at the alternator and tie it back. Yes, all wires at the external VR need to be removed from the old VR and Taped off or heat shrinked so they don't touch anything, as the blue wire is still in the circuit from the alternator to the bulb at the gauge.

Thank you for the info and help. I think posting to Denmark might be expensive. Regards Michael

I’m sure Porsche did the math to load the circuit Just enough to work. 83 May be too small. Anything from 91 to 100 ohms available?
If you can find a BA-7 Type 4 watt bulb, that would work. No resistor needed. I can only find 2 watt bulbs in this side of the pond...
