Quick - How Get Cable From Cabin To Fuse Box?
I need to route a cable from the area of the driver's side under-dash knee bar to the area of the fuse box, in my 89 911 3.2. The cable is moderately thick and has a non-removable square plug (1/2"x1/3", roughly) so I need a decent-sized hole - I can't pinch it between joints, etc. Where is there one? I would like to avoid drilling.
I got under the dash and looked for sunlight, but found only a small (1/4") round hole about 4" aft of the driver's side hood shock mount. Not big enough. FYI this is for a wireless tire monitoring system. Hard-wiring the receiver to the fuse box in the trunk and mounting the remote display on the knee bar. Thanks - in the garage poised ready for action so any ideas will be immediately acted on . . .

Not sure about the driver's side other than to say you have to get down there and look with a flashlight.
However, if you have enough cable length, there's a nice big hole on my '88 on the Passenger side. Open the front trunk and look at the horizontal area near the fender, up past the smuggler's box (meaning closer to the cockpit than the smuggler's box) for a hole about 1" in diameter. Perfect for running monster stereo cables, tire pressure monitors, early warning radar, FLIR sensor cables, and any other electronic gizmo you want to install. ![]() Good luck.

jyl,
I installed a Viper alarm in my '89 a couple of weekends ago, and was able to fish all the wires needed through that area to the front of the car without drilling new holes. Many of the wires had the square electronic plug-ends needed for the alarm controller. Nevertheless, I fished at least 6 wires through one of the existing 2 or 3 bulkhead wire holes. Look up behind the headlight switch under the dash. You'll see several bulkheads that go through, and into the area in front of the driver's side (near the hood strut). You will NOT be able to see light through it - if it's virgin. However, you can, using an old antenna or a coat-hanger poke through beside the wires in that area (while lying on your back on the driver's floor), then widen the hole by rocking the coat-hanger back and forth. Use the coat-hanger to serve as a pull through for the cable when you are ready using electrical tape to fasten the end of the wire/connector to the coat-hanger and pull it through to the front of the car. Caution - if you are suseptable to either headrushes, or blood-clots, I'd get your doctor's permission first, as you'll be spending a lot of time on your back with your head below your waist.. It's a b***h! Keith

Phew - got it done. Actually, refastening the nuts for the knee bar was the hardest part - again, proof that Porsches were assembled by little German elves with teeny hands.
I've done a number of things to the 911 lately - new dashpad, replaced the Blaupunkt with a Becker CDR210 radio, 930S wheel, tire pressure monitor, headlight relay kit, 100w headlight bulbs - looks a lot nicer, when I have a chance I'll post a pic. Thanks, everyone!
