Hose connection for the carbon canister.

7783911 08-19-2020 09:43 AM

I figured it was a hose connection :-)

but no idea what it served (purpose), obviously its not in use on my SC engine..i had guessed maybe it had to do with a temperature switch of some kind since it was open to the external top side of the engine? Nothing a breather would require...just run out of ideas what it could be

HELP!

Gomer

Really...wow, thats wasnt on my guess list..so whats underneath that tube, ie what does it connects to?

thanks!

You connect that nipple with a hose that fits and run it to the carbon canister nipple. It moves air through the canister.

There's positive air pressure inside the cowl that the cooling fan creates. That pressure purges the CC from gas fumes.

7783911 08-19-2020 09:51 AM

found this and now it makes sense

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1597859380.jpg

Here is the key:
1. Expansion chamber
2. Vent chamber
3. Charcoal canister
4. Engine fan shroud (under air cleaner)
5. Hose from fan to charcoal canister
6. Purge line from charcoal canister to air cleaner

so it would make sense to cap this off so hot air isnt blowing into the engine bay?

gomezoneill 08-19-2020 09:52 AM

It's not there on a 85 it's in the engine compartment Attached to the package shelf.

7783911 08-19-2020 09:59 AM

mines an 83 so checking now in the pet, but do i cap or just leave open?

gomezoneill 08-19-2020 10:03 AM

I would hook it up.

7783911 08-19-2020 10:11 AM

hook it up to what, there is no remaining Carbon Canister?

75 911s 08-19-2020 10:29 AM

I just plugged mine with a small piece of the hose and a screw and two hose clamps

proporsche 08-19-2020 10:46 AM

Which Tony? If i can get it off easily I will...

proporsche 08-19-2020 12:13 PM

well , you would have to remove the alternator and pull the little lip tube in plus the sunshine clip is a PITA to remove..Just cover it wit a plug.Tony is a 911 engine master ,CIS and WUR ..engine rebuild class is one of his threads...boyt911sc..
