Targa Vent Window adjustment

Fellow Targa owners,
Had Dan do a complete top rebuild and I installed his windshield seal as well.
When I close the driver's door, the corner of the top moves up a bit, suggesting I've got the "vent" window up a bit high. The window glass also could drop a bit as it doesn't fit into the side seal channel as it should.
I loosened the two bolts in the door jam, the single bolt at the window and the "Desk pad" P/N 901 542 252 20 inside the door to allow the vent frame to move up and down. However there's this material shown in the photo that prevents the frame from moving. It looks too formed to be butyl caulk. In the 911_USA_87_89_KATALOG it seems to be P/N 911 531 711 40 "joint rubber".
Can anyone confirm that this is the part? Is it really needed? (I see many other threads on this topic with no such material). Just wanted to check before I chip it all off and start trying to move the frame.

That was a seal held on by a plastic rivet to help seal the area. It should help with sealing, but needs to be replaced as it’s quite destroyed in that picture. Wasn’t introduced until the mid 80s, so wasn’t used on earlier Targas.

John... I've got an '80 Targa. No seal like that on mine. My window stops no longer work so am always mindful of where the glass height is. Generally when I park, I put the window down a bit. Then when moving on, raise it. Is a quirk that's easily accomodated.

Can't say how many hours I've invested in getting all things and the roof happy with each other. Once there, Targa bliss.

That is the joint rubber piece. The left and right vent windows have mirror-imaged parts with different numbers. It is not necessary for reassembly.

After removing the inner door panel, adjust the stop bolt to prevent the glass from raising over the rubber piece on top of the vent window. It’s good to add another stop bolt to keep it in position.
